I'm looking to buy my first GEC knife and need a little advice. The two that caught my eye were the #15 boys knife and the farmer lock. What other ones should I consider? I prefer single blade knifes but open to some to blade styles. Also where are the best places to buy GEC knives?

Thanks for the help!

What I've noticed is that no two dealers have the same selection. The Great Eastern Cutlery website has a list of dealers, so you can just browse all of them until you find the knife you like. I've never read a bad review about any of them.

The Boy's Knife is really nice. But my personal favorite pattern from GEC so far is the White Owl.

#15 or #55. Both are available in some nice single blade variations and both are 3.5" closed.

You are likely to get more help than you expected what with asking such a question to a swarm of traditional knife knuts like us. Anyway, my specific advice is find one of the ones you mentioned and pick it up. You can't make a mistake with either one if you are attracted to them.

GEC make small runs of knives, so if one strikes your fancy, you better pick it up while it is available. I don't have the farmer lock, but do have the boy's knife and it is a treat. No doubt the farmer lock is as well.

Welcome to Bladeforums and the Traditiionals subforum. You'll like it here I think.

What length knife are you comfortable with? Do want want a lock of some kind? Do you want composite handles?

Any distributor will take care of you. Just take your time and look at everything.

This. Take your time figuring out what pattern suits you, then jump on it.

The #15 is a really straightforward, pattern that shouldn't disappoint, they look like something from yesteryear to my eye, and seem to be well received, and I for one could see myself carrying that knife, also a pattern I'd highly recommend would be the tried but true #56, they're pretty common, but quite useful IMO, and I've really warmed up to mine, but if you like the single blades, the #48 slimline is a very useful, no-frills knife, I've had this one for some time now, and am quite impressed with it given how simplistic it is.

The #15 is Awesome!! I am into single blade too and the #15 and #73 are my favorites. The boys knife is amazing in ebony or rust red bone jig. I don't have the farmer lock and it looks great, but the #15 is pretty much perfect in my eyes. The #15 comes up on the for sale section quite often and I snagged one for a great price. Either way, you will be happy, GEC makes an amazing knife!

As mentioned above, it's really personal preference and you can't go wrong with any GEC (in my experience). For me, the single 73 was my first, and as much as I love my 15 and 85's, they will never dislodge the 73 from it's place in my heart.
