I've got exactly $89 to spend on my first gec, and was wondering if y'all could help me make it. I like the #22 and 15, but have to many choices to narrow it down. So, any recommendations are welcome.

Never can go wrong with a #15, easy carry and can do it all. That budget will get you about any one you want too.

The 22 is a great little knife, here's a pic to show how small it is. The 15 is a nice mid size knife for work, the 22 feels pretty good in the hand and can do it's share of cutting. Both great choices.

Best regards

Robin

I would definitely get the #15 before the #22. A two blade #15 would make a great 1st GEC. Just choose the handles you like and place your order. You should be able to get almost any #15 available at your budget. I really think the Farm Boy is a neat #15.

I would agree with the idea of getting the 15 first as it is a well made mid-sized offering. Plus, if you don't like there will be a line formed quickly of guys willing to take it off your hands.

Everyone should buy a #15. Chances are you had a knife similar to this at one time, but this one will be better

As much as I love the 22 Magnum for your first GEC the 15 is hard to beat! How do you plan to carry your new GEC? The 22 Magnum fits great even in the small watch pockets most jeans come with these days. Both excellent knives though and you really can't go wrong with either of them.

15 is a great knife. I also love the 66's.

Both can be had easily for your budget.

At that price you can pretty much take your pick of the bone, wood, or acrylic in any pattern. If I had it burning a hole in my pocket I'd be tossing a coin between the sea glass 22 and the poisonwood 92.

#15 Boys Knife with NifeBrite Acrylic handle scales in any blade configuration. Just because.

I'll echo the common sentiment, go with the 15. It's a good mid-size knife. Choose the handle/blade configuration of your choice. I went with the ebony farm boy

Just bought the #99 farmer in od green micarta as my first new Gec.I would highly recommend it also..Great price also at $75.

I also think a #15 would be the way to go. I have a single bladed #15 with Ebony scales and the one armed bandit blade. I traded for it, I would not have bought this particular knife for my self. Boy, I sure don't know what's good for me. I love this knife.
The blade shape works great for normal everyday pocket knife stuff and the knife really is easy to open one handed using the notch on the end and my belt loop. Plus it has a much sharper tip than I expected. It's just a great pocket imho.
Nope I would not have chosen it as my first #15 but I am glad I got the chance to trade for it. I would have never known what I was missing out on.

In my opinion, GEC made most of their best patterns in the medium size range (around 3,5").
Since you seem to be leaning towards that size, just pick the blade configuration that speaks more to you.
Their #15, #66, #68, and #76 frames get much love, and are available in many blade combos.

I like the #15, but also the #66 slim.. The #68 is also a sweet knife. Hard to go wrong with any of these. If you get the fever you'll have em all soon anyway.
