Fit and finish is nice and as good if not better than all of my Case knives. Blades are well done and nicely centered. Scales look good and fit well. Keep in mind I have only had them about 10 minutes now. I must say I am very glad I have a microwave to heat up my butter because I am not real sure these knives could slice through it otherwise. I really think I have bought toy knives that have been sharper. In all honesty the only thing I think I have seen close to this would have been a TOPS I received that needed some help.
Thankfully this problem can be easily solved with a little time. Will I be getting anymore GEC Knives? You bet your sweet ..............
Pictures within a few days.

Do all GEC knives come basically unsharpened?

Which did you get? GEC stepped up their sharpening early last year. Before that it could be hit or miss (most of mine even before that were sharp enough for me out of the tube). What are the last 2 numbers for the model number? That will tell you what year it was made if you don't have a serialized one with a COA.

I have now got 10 and they all came sharp enough for me.
Glad you like them despite this hiccup.

Well, duh. I should have remembered the other thread and PM :foot: Being a '10 model will definitely explain the Sleeveboard but I haven't held the Weaver Jack so I don't know how they do with curved blades. May 9th is the date for the #56 so it was after they started doing a better job of sending them out sharp.

Thanks for your (very) initial impressions-- hot off the press! I look forward to your pictures.

jwh,

I think most of us believed you'd like 'em and become hopelessly addicted to GEC. I've got three of those weaver jacks, two of which came sharp. My only 26 sleeveboard, if memory serves wasn't exactly hair popping sharp either. I think their sharpening process has improved over the years, but it's still somewhat hit or miss IMO. When it's good though, it's very good.

Some of their early stuff, 2007/2008 models had pretty poor edges. But the blades made in the last 2 years that I have purchased have been pretty sharp upon arrival. I always touch up production knives anyway.

I don't mind doing some sharpening. I have also bought some Spyderco's lately and they come scary sharp and I seldom have to do much to my Case knives.
