first gen. Endura

I have one of the molded clip endura's with a broken clip. I was going to send it in to Spyderco and have them put on a metal clip but I'd rather use one of those knife kit low rider clips. Can I just use my bench grinder to grind the bump of the old clip off? What's the best plan for screws on the clip - I'm assuming you don't drill and tap the FRN.
