My wife wanted a mini chopper for our anniversary and so I wanted to use all the skills I have learned in the past few months to do it.
The steel was a mystery steel that I picked up from Guo Changxi in Taiwan, I doubt it's the same stuff as Green Destiny but it was a joy to work with, I'm guessing it is probably some sort of spring steel. After breaking three blades in previous attempts I finally splurged on some proper oil and at long last got a win, I nearly wept when I saw that slight shimmer and realised it had survived.
Handle is Thuya burl and the bolster is poor man's mokume gane I knocked up from a pile of old coins of no particular origin
Apologies for the picture quality, my camera isn't great, nor is my setup!
Thanks to Stacey E. Apelt, Nick Wheeler and RyanW without whom's postings and Q&As I wouldn't have had a clue where to begin, I feel like an apprentice of the internet forge! I've got some 1075 now, and so am hoping for better and crisper hamons with more detail and ashi.
