My name is Ian and I have been lurking for a while and figured I'd make a post. Live in south MS and collect knives and pipes, and love trying my hand at new crafts. Have carved pipes, made sheaths, some some basic leather working, done custom knife handles, and various kinds of tinkering.:D

This is a skinner I hand made from a chunk out of an old sawmill blade. Not sure of the steel type but i killed 3 drill bit getting through the steel to drill the pin holes, definitely hard! I hand ground it on a belt sander slowly and cooled constantly to keep the temperature down and make sure it kept it's temper. I did get it sharp and to stay sharp. It can shave hair off your arm and stayed sharp after cutting through some card board. The scales are blue stabilized maple burl. This is the first blade that I have made from top to bottom. This is a picture before I hit it with the buffer.

I have put custom handles on around 20 blanks in the past but this is my first blade.

Thanks for looking and I'm open to any critique.

That's a nice looking knife you made there. I like the thumbramp. It looks like a very usable shape.

My girlfriend bought me a experience day with blacksmith. And guess what we are going to do?

Okey, the first one that i made was in high-school, but that is so rude that it dosent count. I made that secretly behind teachers back, no one helped me and it looks like shank in prison but 5 times bigger:D
