Hey everyone, this is my first post on this forum, I am a beginner at making knives. I'd love to see other people's first handmade knives.:)

Welcome to the forum! I just started making knives last spring. It is a LOT of fun. Good Idea starting a thread for beginner knife makers pictures! I am curious to see what other people are making! :)
This one is my first:

Here are some more that I have made:

Not the very first one, but one of the first "good" ones, and one I still have:

WOOOOOW!!! That is so cool! Did you make that from scratch? Would you ever consider writing up a quick tutorial about how you made that?

Sure- I don't want to drift the thread too much though. I really didn't know what I was doing at the time. The blade is made from a file. I cut the metal using an abrasive saw blade on a table saw. I'm not sure how I was able to drill the holes, as I didn't anneal it at all. The holes are 3/16" drilled with a drill press. I ground the blade on a 1"x42" bench belt grinder. Never did try and give it a heat treat, but since I never annealed it in the first place it holds an edge well. I just got lucky I guess.

I made the handles out of a 1/2" thick bar of aluminum I found somewhere. I cut the channel using the abrasive saw blade on the table saw, lowered so it only cut to the depth that I wanted. I'm not sure how I managed this without seriously injuring myself, and I would advise against anyone trying this. The pattern was cut out with a drill and dremel tool. The pins are from a 3/16" brass rod I picked up at the hardware store, cut and peened into place. .

If you want to make your own balisong, or any knife, I recommend looking for the many tutorials that people have posted here on the forums. When I made this knife I was clueless and should have hurt myself. I shouldn't have been able to make it, I just got lucky. I've learned and continue to learn a ton of great information about knife making on this forum since then. It and our fellow members are a wonderful community!

Definitely check out the Shop Talk knifemaker's forum! http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/741-Shop-Talk-BladeSmith-Questions-and-Answers

Here's a couple of my more recent efforts:

You guys make some beatiful knives, I don't know how to post pictures on here, but the first completed one was made from a coping saw blade and some homemade orange and blue micarta. Since the saw blade sat in my humid basement for a few years, when I was finishes it had a beautiful patena on it :)

Hey that sounds cool. To post pictures you have to get a photobucket or imageshack account and upload/host your photos there. You just copy the image codes they provide and paste them in your posts.

This was my first knife. I started small. It's 1/8" 1080 convex grind neck knife with a skeletonized tang. I also made the kydex sheath for it.

Gary, welcome to Bladeforums! Here's how to post pics:

The first two instructions will get you up and running. The next two are in more detail for more complex situations.

1. Paid members can upload from their computers, but anyone can open a photo hosting account.
I use www.photobucket.com . Download your pictures and they give you a URL for each picture.
Use the fourth URL, with the tags already in place. Copy & Paste that in your post here.

2. Another way: go to [url]http://www.imgur.com[/url] and upload your image.
After uploading, select the BBCode option - it starts with [IMG]. Copy & Paste to your thread.

3. You should also [URL="http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/353471-READ-THIS-FIRST!-How-to-ask-questions-that-get-answered"]READ THIS FIRST! How to ask questions that get answered[/URL] which includes photo posting instructions.

4. For a detailed TUTORIAL: Displaying your photographs on BladeForums
