I know Ray's fine hawk is still front page, but here's mine anyway:DThe head is 8" long with a 2 1/2 " cutting edge and was forged from 1086 1" square, cleaned up on the grinder with the spike being hollow ground to about 1/8th" at the bottom edge, then put back in the fire to be textured with a 2oz ball pein and fire black finish. Haft is century old barn oak with the hand grip carved and flamed spiral. Finish is Tru Oil and the minimul decorations is a little decorative filing on the bottom of the blade, copper tacks on the haft and a forged curl finial and arrowhead haft ornament.

That's some whicked nice forging John! VERY nice!!! :D

Where the heck did you get 1" square 1086? I thought Howard only had 1086 made up in rounds. Like I need more steel! ;) :)

Thanks for sharing John!

Thanks a lot guys!! Nick, Chad Nichols gave me this piece of 1086, and it was some he got in a trade from Chris Marks, whom I believe Chad said bought a whole melt from somewhere. They use it making mosaics in a can.
