First hawk?

You'll have to forgive me if this has been covered a thousand times already but, what would be a good first hawk? I plan on using it for camp chores, hunting (though not actually hunting animals with the thing... more like breaking bones once the critters are down) and throwing - not so much for CQB cutting people up stuff...;) Now, I realize I could probably get a decent hatchet that'll do everything I need it to for less than an ATC would cost but, I really respect companies that stand behind their products and I like to throw my money their way whenever possible, plus, I'd rather not risk blowing my money on "crap", even if it is only $20 worth of crap.

I've got my eye on the Brend and the Vietnam Tactical specifically because, while I love wood for other uses, I've found it's not usually the most durable material for tools - particularly tools that are going to be thrown 30 yards and could possibly land on jagged rocks;) but, if you guys tell me that the hickory holds as up well as the acetal(sp?) I wouldn't mind going for one of the other models.

As for the Next Generation Ranger: it's absolutely beautiful and I love 0-1 but the price is bit steep for me right now so, please don't taunt me with how wonderful it is:).

Anyway, Thanks in advance for your answers and, sorry about the newbie questions... you gotta start somewhere you know:D.

Ohh, I forgot to mention... I'm a giant halfsquatch of a man with 5' long ape arms and clubs for hands if that makes any difference!

Thanks!

Ghetto: I have the VN Tac hawk, and can't say enough good things about it. Take it with me everywhere I go (okay, so sometimes it's in the car, but still...). Should do fine for chopping wood, etc. A buddy of mine cut a hanging bowling pin in half with one blow with it! Throwing takes some practice, but isn't too hard... All I can say is that IMHO, just about everyone should get one!:D Hope this helps...

GM,

I have to agree that the Vietnam Tactical is a great way to start. You'll use it for everything and it's a blast to throw. I have them in stock, ready to ship and you'd have it mid next week.

Call me on the toll-free and I'll ship it right out.

Well dang, so much for getting off cheap;)... Odds are you'll be talking to a an abnormally large Mom face kicking Midget™ tomorrow evening Suzanne:D - I just hope you're still open at 4:15 MTN time.

Thanks for the replies everybody! I'm sure I'll love it, the crappy hatchet I found when I was up in the hills has been worth every cent I paid for it but I'm looking foreword to giving it a proper burial and stepping up to something that doesn't "suck".

Now if I would just stop spending all these hundreds of dollars on wonderful sharp pointy toy*cough* tools and start spending it stupid worthless things like my "college education"
