I'm looking into buying my first tomahawk, does anyone have a Fort Turner tomahawk or know anything about them? Heres the website, http://www.fortturner.com/store/index.htm

I'll probably be using it for throwing and taking with me camping so chopping too, do you think one of these will be able to take some abuse and be a heavy user that lasts? Thanks.

Welcome to BFC.

They said; "...Our throwing tomahawks and knives are made specifically for those who camp and play hard at the infamous mountain man rendezvous."

Sounds good to me.

If you get it; let us know how you like it.

I bought a Buck Hawk from Ft. Turner. It's my first hawk, so I don't have the ability to compare to other hawks. It came with an axe profile on the edge, it does have marks from the forging process. It has a very solid fit to the handle. I emailed Dana about the steel used and he said the cutting edge is 1095 and the rest is a softer steel, don't remember now if it was 1020 or what.
All I've done so far is reprofile to the edge to 30*. That's probably too thin for general chopping duties, but I am planning to use it in game processing.
I really like the hawk, I would not have any reservations about doing business with Dana again.
I am now getting curious about a small hawk, like the smallest one he has listed.
I will be interested in your experience with his hawks if you buy one. I'm always looking for new ideas on what to do and how to do it.

I've never heard of the manufacturer, but that don't mean nuthin. The hawk looks like a hand forged number. I like the pic of the smith at the forge! You want harder steel at the front blade and softer steel in the rest of the hawk to absorb the pounding. This hawk has those features. IMO I believe this may be a very good hawk. Go for it! :D
