Hand-made in USA, very sharp and very tough. Also quite affordable.

My favorite is the "Buck Hawk".

I have a warbeast from Devin Price at 2Hawls and its name fits it perfectly but its on the pricey side at $250, he does make other models that are in the $100-150 that are VERY good-check out his Woodsman and Longhunter is that is in your budget. If not I have heard good things about Ron LaClair's Shrew Hawk and its only $75 plus a bit extra for a nice leather sheath. I've attached pics of Devin's Longhunter and Woodsman and a link to the shrew hawk site. Here's the link: http://www.shrewbows.com/shrewhawk/
and here's the pics...you can get his stuff from him directly off his site or on the 'bay for a bit cheaper.

this is a crappy pic but it good enough to see the size, this is his smallest hawk which is perfect for a hiking pack(IMO)

and I thought I'd throw in a pic of his Voyager model which is the head of the warbeast on a shorter haft-the head of this one is a monster chopper

and of course is you want to start small and inexpensive you go with the Cold Steel line of hawks cuz there are like 7 styles for under $40!! and they make awesome modification projects. Here's a pic of a standard trailhawk from C.S. and then mine after a week of mods.

Well happy hawk hunting, they're some of the most versatile tools you can take with you outdoors and they're just really fun to own in general;):D

Thanks guys, I thought they had 2 sides 1 axe looking and 1 hammer looking. I was thinking hatchet, hammer, throwing tool? but hatchet and throwing tool is fine too.

Hi there real talk
You honestly can't fault Cold steel hawks, they're cheap and IMO much better than the 40 dollar price tag would suggest. They make 3 poll hawks (with hammer head at the back )))) The trail hawk (see the trail hawk mod sticky thread at the top of the forum page) The "pipe hawk" is another with a hammer poll and the rifleman ( I hate this one but many people like them). As stated above the trail hawk is light and a great thrower, the pipe hawk is a better cutter in my opinion and throws very well. It's a great place to start the addiction ;-)
There are also lots of great makers on this forum, Kentucky, Steve Liley (coal creek forge) Butch of butchs forge, Walk by faith all make great hawks and there are many more.
Regards

Robin

Historically, tomahawks came in all sorts of shapes, lengths, and sizes.

Some had pipe bowls, some had hammer polls, some had spikes, some were just plain.

They could range in size from the little Bag Axes up to some like the Missouri War Axe which rivaled many european medieval battle axes in size.
