First HI Khukuri and lack of Kami Markings

I'm officially part of the club. I received my first kukri in the mail today (a CAK) and it is a magnificent tool. Already planning camping trips the sole purpose of which is to use my kukri. I was slightly disappointed to see that my blade lacked the ubiquitous "U.B." in honor of Uncle Bill and also had no markings identifying the kami who forged it. Is it normal for an HI Blade to have no markings? Do you have to request them? I understand that the markings do not affect the utility of the knife but they do lend an air of authenticity and uniqueness that I was looking forward to.

All the best and have a great new years!!

Did you buy it directly from Yangdu? From time to time the kami markings get forgotten but if it really bothers you I'm sure she would exchange it for one that does.

I totally understand wanting kami markings, I am personally obsessed with them, it is why I seek out early era models made by specific people, but if it does not have a kami marking it was likely made by someone who hasn't earned a mark, or perhaps purchased from another kami, as we have been sorely taxing the company stock. But just like dirtbiker said, if it means the world to you, I am relatively certain yangdu can help you , just send a polite email and be patient on the response.

Dirtbiker - I bought it online, next time I buy a knife from HI I will be sure to call the store directly.

Gehazi - I feel like a bit of a dick because the knife is so beautiful, but I can't help but feel disappointed without the markings.

As far as authenticity goes if you have seen enough HI blades it becomes obvious where they come from. Some folks here can even narrow it down to the individual maker just by their workmanship. Rajkumar or Bura blades for example are fairly unmistakable. Not that the quality is any less but just their style of workmanship. I understand your concern tho. If it was my third or fourth blade I surely wouldnt worry about it but being you first its up to you what you want to do with it. Aunti will surely take car of ya! No question about that. She wants you happy with your purchase at all costs!

Include a pic on this forum, and I'll bet some of the knowledgable forumites can probably ID or help to authenticate the Khukuri. Of course, it would all be heresay, because they wouldn't be able to actually physically inspect it, but like ndoghouse said, some of these guys are quite formidible in their abilities to identify certain work, by certain Kami's. Good Luck!

Saillinger, now and then our Kamis forgets to mark the blade. Send the knife back to HI and I will ship you one with kami mark.
Warm welcome to the HI and blade forum
Happy New Year!

Auntie and the HI family is nothing short of amazing, there is no other business that I know of, that truly believes in customer service and business integrity like HI does!

Are we positive sure its an HI khuk? I've read the thread 3 times. I'd to see auntie swapping for a KLO.

Yangdu is amazing, a gift to the world of khukuri and knives in general. Definitely have to remind myself to get her a birthday gift for being so wonderful. But yeah it would be best to confirm what you actually bought was an authentic HI.

No worries at all then. I just read you bought it on line and read that to be private party. My bad.
