Hi All-

Just wanted to say that I just put my hands on my first HI Khukri. It is a MONSTER think chopper that I got from RAT-30 in the for sale section....It has a mega thick spine and beautiful fullered sides. There are inlaid Yin/Yang symbols abound in the wooden handle. I wasn't sure what to expect, but had read some of the threads comparing HI with other makers. I went with the recommendations on the forums and decided to purchase my first Khukuri on a whim....figuring I would make it an HI Khukuri.....I IMMEDIATELY got hooked on khukuris and HI!

I promptly ordered a few from Yangdu,to follow the one I got from RAT-30. I got the box in the mail from Yangdu yesterday evening. I opened the box and carefully slid one of the wrapped treasures out. It is a 15" Villager BAS by RAM. Talk about the perfect user camp tool! it fits my hand very well, and has a hefty swing while still being controllable. I have a fruit tree in the yard that needs thinning, and I think this will be just the ticket. I will dip into the box a couple more times -one a night until the box is empty, to see the other treasures....one day at a time.

I am hooked on HI. Now I understand why the huge fan base. Please consider me on the fan list. Thanks Yangdu!:)

Welcome, Blueline.

Read the safety thread. Yes, again.

Neat to be able to relate to your reaction to the H.I. family of edged tools, thank you.

We will, of course, begin to anticipate pictures.

Have fun.

Sounds like you got a YCS from RAT....just awesome.

The BAS will bring loads of fun - guaranteed.

Hello Blueline,

I'm also new to HI and I know the feeling. Holding a khukuri for the first time is really something!

Kind of redefines what a big knife is don't it. Makes you start thinking of things like K-bars as small.

Welcome, Blueline.

Having a khuk fit you very well is a great experience.

Thank you for the warm welcome!

Kismet- Thanks for the tip to read the safety link. I will especially take to heart the powerful arc of the Khukuri swing. I have also been VERY careful in drawing the knife out of the sheath with the hand over the spine! I will take photos when I get out in the yard w/ the Khukuri.

Mr. Koster- Thank you for the warm welcome. I was hoping to visit you in Feb at the Napa show, but I was on a cruise then....You certainly know your way around the Khukuri! Look forward to tapping into your experiences!!

Hang them later- Thank you for the welcome. Look forward to chatting with a new "HI convert" like myself!

Bob White- Thank you for the welcome! Yes, it certainly does put into perspective the "large" Kabar!!! One of the Khukuris I got must have a 1/2 inch thick spine!!! Wow! I always marveled when I held a knife that was a whole 1/4 inch thick!! I can't wait to do some chopping on wood with that forward weight and 1/2 inch thick spine! I will make sure to be careful and learn how to use the "sweet spot."

Munk- Thank you also for the welcome. I am guessing you are one of the very established members of the HI room. I hope to contribute and learn!

I unwrapped 3 of 5 Khukuris that I purchased from Yangdu. What fun! I opened one a night, to give ample "play" time. I wanted to get a feel for each one as an individual blade. I think this is paying off, as I am feeling subtle difference is weight, length, and handle variations, however slight.

I have 2 more to unrap over the next 2 days! Woo Hoo!! All I need now is to quit my day job so I have more time to myself!

All the best-

Blueline :)

Because each one is individually made, two of the same model and even by the same maker will feel different. I had two 18" AKs by Bura and one felt "better" to me than the other, so I kept that one and gave the other away as a gift. What I think feels "better" may not be what you think. Many of us here have embarked on the quest to find the perfect one. Or many perfect ones, for different uses or just ascethics. Welcome to the madness.
