Got my first HI khuk today. It's a 15" BAS made by Sher (if I'm not mistaken) that I got from Yangdu at a great price. Let me start by saying that this has to be the stoutest blade I've ever seen! Nearly a half inch thick & with a very sharp edge out o the box. What a frigging blade! I fell in love with it as soon as I unsheathed it. Speaking of the sheath, WOW! Its better quality than I've seen on a lot of high dollar customs. Knife retention is exquisite. The chakma & karda are just as nice as the khukuri.

The handle fits my hand perfectly & the balance is better than I'd expected. So, whats the first thing you think I did? You guessed it, went out back to find something to chop. First on the list was a 2" thick sugarcane. NO contest. The Khuk sliced through it at 45 degrees like it wasn't even there. Holding the cane with my left hand I sliced it into 1 foot pieces with zero effort.
Next, I spotted a 2x4. You guys know what comes next. Chopped it in half with just a few strokes & minimal effort. To say that I'm impressed is an understatement.

I wanted this knife as my hunting & outdoor blade & I can tell you this, I'd be hard pressed to find a better one. Just a few minutes on a polishing stone & this khuk shaves!
Sharp, tough, beautiful,& reliable, what more could I want? Maybe about a dozen more khukuris!:p

Thank you very much Yangdu for putting out such a wonderful knife. And thank all the Kamis for me. You'll be hearing from me soon for more khukuris!

My very first kukri ever was a BAS. Not from H.I. though. They are great blades capable of most work. Now get an M-43 and the BAS will seem anemic in comparison.

Another one infected with HIkV.
If this were H1N1 the CDC would be declaring a Pandemic, seems like the bug is catching more new people lately.

You aint kidding. I'm eyeballing 3 already. M43, 18" GRS & a Fox's Folly.... I've always liked the Khukuri but this stuff here is thr GRAVY!

You will not be disappointed in the M-43. Mine's awesome. I had a Foxy Folly obsession for a while, but my current obsession is the Dui Chirra. Gonna have to get me one of those.

The bad thing about us HIKV sufferers is our unbelievable willingness to spread the infection to others.

I had a Foxy Folly obsession for a while, but my current obsession is the Dui Chirra. .

But CRR, the Foxy is a Dui Chirra, just 17inches and 24ounces with a Hanshee curve rather than the longer and heavier straighter backed version labeled a 'Dui Chirra'. :D

My next Dui Chirra will be in the Berkley Special incarnation.

Congrats on your new blade and welcome to the forums. Get an M43, they are awesome!! If I had the money right now thats the blade I'd be buying.

Sorry for my earlier bad manners: welcome to HI and this corner of BF; please have a look round the Cantina for off topic discussions and find out about those of us suffering (?) HIKV. :D

I purchased a 15inch 24ounce BAS made by Sher as a 70th birthday present for a friend and in the short time I had to look at it I was mighty impressed with just how compact and functional the BAS is compared to other Khukuri's I own.

Thanks for the welcome guys. I'm soon going to be in a much better financial situation & I suspect the Khukuris will start to multiply :) .....

Update:
Went outside to put the BAS to work again. Trimmed 6 branches off a couple of coconut palms. These tend to be very fibrous & wreak havoc on blade edges. The branches run about 4" wide across the flats. The BAS cut (more like sliced) through each with 1 stroke. After that, I cut each branch into 1 foot pieces with no problems. Checked the edge when I was done & its still as sharp as it was before I started.

I am sold on the quality of HI. These are just what I was looking for!

Hey Bubba, welcome and embrace your HIKV! :D I know what you're talking about with the coconut palms - I have about 14 of 'em in my yard along with a bunch of ficus and florida holly/brazilian pepper trees. My khuks love to wreak havoc on them when they need pruning.

And that quality doesn't just apply to Khuk's ...soon you will be looking at swords, knives and who knows what surprises Yangdu and the Kami's have in store for 2066!
