My first HI Sirupati arrived on Friday, but weekend duty kept me away from it until this morning. Ach, torture.
The balance point is two inches forward of the bolster and the blade flows so smoothly through cutting and chopping actions. The quality of the blade is a living testament to the kami(s) who crafted it. The karda and chakma are well done, the polish is excellent on both and the handles are wonderfully figured horn. They seem small in hand, but are nicely proportioned to the rig.
It probably won't be until the end of the summer when I get to really try it out back packing. It is a perfect size and weight to strap on to the ruck sack and go roaming. Can't wait. It is not a long drive to the Smokies or Ozarks from here, maybe I can sneak a few days of leave....
In the meantime I'm going to construct a sheath that fits in my bag securely, an haunt the forum to suck in all that info you post.
Thank you HI for bringing such a blade my way.

Fair winds and following seas to all.

Welcome aboard, we have more than just love of HI khuks in common, I like to back pack too. I got a BAS for that purpose but my new HIKK may usurp it's position. Let me know how you tackle the sheath affixed to the pack problem. This is something I have been looking at too.

I am considering either a leather or kydex affair closed on the cutting edge side and with a keeper strap on the spine so the khuk can be pulled out and to the side rather than straight up. My pack has compression straps on the sides and across the face, so attachment is no problem if i choose to mount it on the outside. I will definatly let you know and try to post pics when I come up with something.

You've gotta go out, but needn't come back.

Thank You kindly for the welcome!
I got the fifteen inch for its hany size and light weight in the pack.
Problem is, it's too beautiful!
I am thinking a villager, something short and stout to offset the sleek beauth of my 15".
Who knows when the bug will bite.
