Today was a good day to just get out for a bit, go for a walk...clear my head, and look at the color coming back into the world. So...I took a walk along a creek at the bottom of Signal Mountain.

It was great to see the new beginnings of spring!

next autumn those will look like this.

All the recent rains have the creek flowing pretty well right now.

At one time I would have seen this as a possible resource, and most likely I would have taken it home and added it to the collection. However in recent years there has been some much in the news about contaminated containers involved in meth production I would advise against opening anything like this around here unless you had no other choice.

I think maybe this was done by Pileated Woodpeckers, there were a couple in the immediate area...their call is unmistakable.

Whatever these are, there are a lot of them popping up.

There were some nice pools to sit beside and chill.

This rock looked like a comfortable seat (and it was) so that's where I stopped and had a snack.

Nice view too.

I ate my tuna with a somewhat expensive, micarta handled spoon because I have somehow misplaced my spork.

Ever find yourself wondering about the food regulations in other countries...?

Here's a question for you...which would likely be safer to drink as is, the rain water collected in a pool on the rock?

IMG_3098.jpg

Or, the water the rock is in?

the running water, i never drink stagnent water without boiling or chemical treatment.
not sure about your area but in oregon just about any stream is good to drink.

That was rain water from last nights storm...now weigh into the equation that there are houses up on the mountain stream whoes septic systems very likely leach into this water system....

Awesome pictures Mistwalker. There's nothing I love to do more in the outdoors then wade in a stream like that in late summer.

First Hike of Spring 2110  I hope to still be alive for that :D

Great pic Mist ... thanks for posting.

like i siad im not to sure about your area, i had no clue how long the water had been there or if the stream was polluted.

first hike of 2110!!! you must teach me your secrets of time travel mistwalker!!!!!!:thumbup::D

any trout in that stream mist?

There are some small fish on up on top where it runs slower...and lots of different kinds on down where it runs into the river. Never seen any fish in this stretch...way too tempestuous I suppose. Often flowing very hard after rains with all the little streams that run into it. During a bad flood in the 80's I stood on a bluff on the top of the adjacent ridge saw some "rocks" the size of houses roll down the mountain side and down this creek and take out a two lane concrete bridge barely slowing down in the process

Thanks man, glad you enjoyed the pics!

I don't think I hope I am...unless I can still be as healthy as I am right now at the age of 144 :)

I try not to drink water with housing runoff. Manky! Always check the map!
