Hate to mislead you guys with the enticing title, but in reality it's just a pen. Wish it was an XM! :D But anyway, I just bought a copper Extreme Duty pen from Howe's, which I have been lusting over for a while. Actually, I should rephrase that; I've been lusting over "any" copper pen lately, and the copper Investigator seems to be out of stock everywhere. Did I make the right choice getting the Extreme Duty? It's going to be used as an EDC pen (not too concerned about tactical use, I just like how copper looks!), and many say the Investigator is too small to be comfortable for extended writing. I'm a college student so that's pretty much a requirement for me. Is the Extreme Duty too bulky though for casual carry?

Thanks guys, pictures will be following once it arrives!

I carry a black aluminum extreme duty all the time. I realize its much lighter than the copper will be, but the pen is the perfect size. I also have a blue aluminum investigator pen, but its actually too small for me, but it has found a home in my maxpedition small notbook case. I was going to sell it, but will keep it since it fits that case perfectly...........I also carry my black aluminum extreme duty at work on my neck lanyard daily. All I did was buy a fine blue cartridge as thats what they require at my job, rather than black ink..........

If there is one downside to the Hinderer pens, its that to remove the cap, its only 1 1/2 turns, while the old original Hinderer pens took like 3 1/2 to 4 full turns to remove the cap. I guess people complained that it took too long to remove the cap, but I am in the minority that would rather turn the pen a few extra times than to replace a cap that costs $20.

But overall, the Hinderer pen are amazing and probably the best pens of their kind on the market and I have had several of them including all the versions of country comm, surefire, benchmade........and the Hinderer pen blows them all away. Though I will admit, I like the clicky version of the Surefire pen.

I think you are going to love it. I use (EDC) Both the Investigator and the Extreme Duty - Love them both.
It boils down to which side my bag is on when I grab my pen.
Enjoy!

You will love it. I agree the Extreme Duty will be more comfortable for extended periods of writing. I carry both switching out from day to day with no solid preference yet.

My XM-18 is sitting in the post office....time just wont go by...i have to wait till Tuesday bec Monday is a holiday here! I might get a pen as well these upcoming weeks...but i cant wait to get the knife. (too excited!)

Got my Copper Extreme Duty in yesterday and carried it to a two and a half hour Law class to break it in. My immediate impression was that it was going to be way too heavy to actually write with, at 3.8 oz (by my scale) it's definitely one of the heaviest pens on the market. What I found is that once your arm adjusts to this sudden increase in weight, it's actually quite smooth and comfortable. I went ahead and polished off the beadblast, I think it looks much classier this way instead of the dull finish it had initially. I also used a Spyderco UF stone to soften the hard cut edges, which has helped it from destroying my pockets a little bit. My biggest knock on it so far is that the pocket clip/ridges really do a number to your pockets, but that appears to be taken care of now.

Another thing to note: for some reason I thought it was going to come with a "fine" refill, instead it had "bold" which actually has improved my penmanship a bit. Pictures forthcoming!
