Thought I'd share some pictures of my first Hinderer XM-18 3 " Custom flipper. First one I've ever seen or held and I'm totally blown away with everything about this knife. Anyone have any info on blade steel used?

Wow, what an entre' First Hinderer. Nicely Done - She is a Beauty

May it bring many many years of Enjoyment.

Great knife. And, BTW, I've been researching steels for another Youtube video highlighting my XM-18, and the Duratech steel is a very good metal.. It has a staggering 20% chromium, and is thus highly corrosion-resistant, and has great tensile strength and edge retention. Not sure why Rick is turning to s35VN for the new 3.5" XM-18's (variety is the spice of life), but the Duratech 20CV is a great blade steel.

Thanks for all the congratualtions everyone! It won't be my last Hinderer since I still want to get one to carry. I'm curious how many custom knives are made each year compared to the production knife?

Carry that one until you get another! Even if as a secondary blade, it will grow on you and take primary spot quickly so the clock is ticking on that search for a second.

As for how many...who knows? It's dynamic. I'll give you these nuggets...at shows like Blade there are a couple lottery-style drawings over the weekend of the event. For each of the drawings, there's about say 40 knives. Of the 40 about 10-12 are customs. This is not a hard fact, but has some truth to it. Then add in that the production runs for direct order are of an undisclosed production number, and I'd say that it's a very small percentage of all XMs that fall into the custom category.

Thanks for that info Need2Know. Certainly a small amount of customs out there. Every web site I've checked they're usually sold.

No problemo.

They certainly are hard to find because the are so grail worthy. But they do pop up here and there.
