Hi everybody,

This is my first post in the Hinderer forum.

I have been admiring all of the great pics of hinderers that you've been posting for quite some time now, and I've been hoping to eventually get my hands on one. As it turns out, my wife (who is amazing) recently got me a 3.5" spanto xm18 for my birthday. My expectations were pretty high after spending so much time reading about these knives, and I was prepared to be thoroughly underwhelmed. I'm pleased to say that when I got it I was not disappointed!

I don't usually post a lot, and I usually only post knife pics when I'm using them for something. However, I just received a smooth Ti scale from the farm, and I couldn't resist. I could not be happier with this knife.

Please excuse the poor quality cell phone pics, I just put the new slab on and snapped a few.

A tank of a knife. Now it will be tough for you to ever carry anything else. There's just nothing like an XM. Congrats!

Very true statement there! I've either traded or sold most of the other knives I had to help fund Hinderer gear! Very nice setup you have there. You're off to an amazing start. Be prepared though....ha!

Congrats on it, that's the quintessential XM setup to have IMHO!

OK, that's really weird, as I was reading the original post, my plan was to respond "great knife, that is the quintessential Hinderer XM".

That is an amazing XM congratulations! This is where the addiction begins!

Tim709 congrats on the most iconic flipper ever made, especially the Ti set up you and your wife both have good taste.

wow looks awesome with the titanium on both sides. might have to pick me up a titanium scale now.

That's a great first XM!! Starting off big!! It's all down hill from here buddy...

Welcome to the Herd!!

Well, "First Hinderer" .... You (and your Wife) certainly know how to do things "Right".
Congrats

Yep, got my first XM in May and aside from literally just 2 or 3 days an XM had occupied my pocket (and I missed the XM on those days)!

I'm down to only 3 of my custom folders, one of which I had specifically commissioned, the others sold to fund XMs :D

So, something to look forward to - "here try this, you'll like it - the first one's free" ;)

Congrats on your first, great way to start! And Welcome to the forum! Oh, and if your wife chides you about spending so much time on the forums (or money on XMs) like mine does from time to time, just tell her she started it by getting you one!! (Which is awesome, by the way!)..

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone,

To be honest, this wasn't the knife that I thought I wanted! For a very long time, I had been thinking that I would like a non-flipper, with a textured bronze Ti Slab.

As it turns out, someone local (thanks JDunn709!) was selling this knife with a grey scale. I had never even handled a flipper before getting this one. I thought it might get snagged in my pocket, and didn't really see the advantages. That changed pretty quickly when I got my hands on it, the flipper is a joy to use, and very practical.

I was happy with the grey scale, but when I saw the smooth stone washed handle slabs show up on the website, I snagged one. I wasn't sure what I would think of it, but I figured that they would disappear pretty quick, so I went for it. I didn't even take the time to read all of Rob's post about other styles coming eventually until after I placed the order! That made me wonder if I had made a mistake. However; I have to say that I could not be happier now that I have it on the knife. I know that aesthetics are very personal, but I love the way everything matches now. I also didn't think it was possible to have the knife feel any more solid than it did, but in my opinion the Ti slab makes a noticeable difference.

This has been a knife that I have been wanting to get for a long time now, and I plan to enjoy using it.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love a wharnie, or a 24, and the new knives Rob has posted look great too :) But I think this knife is going to keep me satisfied for a good while.

Thanks for all the kind words.

Tim
