First Holster... Mother's Day Gift to Mom

So this is my first attempt at a holster. . It’s an IWB (inside waistband) holster set up for concealed carry for my mom’s Beretta .32 (I can’t stand that gun, but that’s a different story), cut from 9oz Oak Double Shoulders. I didn’t like the old holster (it was thin leather and uncomfortable to wear) so I figured I’d try to make a better one! I know its not perfect, but im pretty happy with how it turned out for my first. It is wet formed, so there is that nice “click” when it’s slid into place. Not your typical daughter- mother, mother’s day gift, it’s something she will use every day, and hand made stuff is special Any comments, opinions, or advice on how to improve are welcome!

Very nice. Certainly far beyond most first attempts. At ,east for mine anyway.

Very nice! Great pics too. Really allows us to see your work. Got to be a good back story on the shoeing rasp as a prop? On your next project consider overlaying the prongs of the basket stamp more. Study the stamping on the yoke of this pair of chinks. You look close and you see that the prongs are over laid completely. This will do several things for you. It makes your stamping much more uniform and consistent and really lowers your stress level. All the hemming and hawing of where to put the next stamp is taken away. It will with time also vastly increase your speed. You get more done better and faster. Win win. The young man in the pic is holding the rope on a calf while the rider is getting closer to secure the rope at our branding last weekend.

I've never stamped an IWB holster and would be curious to the longevity of the stamping on the holster, how it will wear. Stiching on your holster is great very uniform. A great Mother's Day present and outside the box for sure. Nice job! The only Berretta Tomcat I've ever been around wouldn't go a whole mag without hanging up. That why ya don't like it?

That looks great Nic, I'm sure she'll love it. How did you get that color? I really like that.

Thanks Dave! Huge fan of your work by the way...really want to get a pair of your chaps when I have the money. As far as the ferriers rasp goes, I started using it for taking pictures of my knives. I needed something to hold the knife up that looked cool and rustic to get pictures, so I went and grabbed a rasp out of the barn. Been doing it since:). Ahh, good idea, I will make sure to overlay them more next time. I'll shoot you an email here in a few months after the holster gets some good use and let you know how it's held up!

Exactly, this gun doesn't want to feed properly....neat concept for smaller handed people (which I am not) but I like a normal slide. We've had lots of work done to it, it has less issues now, but is really picky with ammo and uncomfortable to shoot. I'd much rather carry a compact 1911

Thank you! She was pretty excited when I gave it to her today. It's brown antique leather dye from Tandy...it's supposed to get down into the tooling and make the deep spots dark. You apply a coat, and in 5 minutes or so go over it with a damp cloth to remove some of the dye from the top. I did this 3 times and then oiled. I really like how it makes the tooling stand out.

Great job with applying that, it has an aged and rich look to it. Well done young lady:thumbup:

Nichole my wife just picked up her Springfield EMP at the gunstore this week. SWEET pistola!!!!!!! 3" 1911 sized for the 9mm. Wow its a shooter. Yes I'd be very interested in your followup. Did ya seal the antique at all? I'd be a little worried about dye transfer tucked into the jeans like that. Thanks. Nichole did all the tooling in the pic above, (belt and chinks), I did the knife and slotted sheath. Knew there was story behind the rasp.

Huh, that's my name! Even spelled right! Most people forget the "h". ive shot them, they are pretty nice!!! My all time favorite for concealed carry is a Kimber Compact Carry, but those can get pretty pricy.
Ummm...it has multiple coats of nests foot oil on it....not good enough? (I'm still a noob to leatherwork).
Nice, I like it a lot. I've been wanting to try a pancake sheath like you make, I need to take the time to figure it out and try to make one:)

Try a coat of something like Fiebings BagKote or TanKote over the top. The neatsfoot oil is good and gives you that great color. Its a preservative and puts some "life" back in the leather after wet molding. Either of the Kotes will help keep the antiquing in place and not flaking off. I apply the finish by stretching an old t shirt tight over a couple of fingers. Doesn't take much just a light coat.
