First impression on Gryphon M-13 and Spyderco Street Beat. Need help!

I recently got a Gryphon M-10 and I was a bit disappointed. The sheath was perfect. Actually, I like the sheath more than the knife, lol. The handle on it just didn't fit me well. I don't have big hands and the handle is definitely long enough. But for a tactical folder I just didn't feel the grip was secure enough. The finger choil was also too small for me. I aslo didn't like the hump on top. Shorty after, I picked up a Spyderco Street Beat and WOW. Feels great in hand. The handle is a bit shorter than the Gryphon but for some reason it just fits me perfect. My Favorite little fixed blade to date. The sheath on the other hand is pretty good, definitely not as good a the Gryphon's sheath.

Here is where I need help. I love the Street Beat, but I have one problem. I want a bigger blade. What are some similar blades you guys can recommend. Full Tang only. I want something that has a good handle, longer blade, light weight (around 4.5oz or less), tactical, and decent to great finger choil. Budget around >$200

Knife that I'm considering:

Al Mar Mini SERE Fixed (Not so great: sheath, no finger choil)

You should go custom, get any design you want, any steel you like, and built to your specs.

Take a look in the Fixed Blade by Custom Makers forums. I have a CPM-154 fixed blade by Oleg Krymlin that sounds awfully similar to what you are describing, minus the tactical because I'm not sure what that means.

You're right, I should. Any maker you recommend?

I will do that. Wow it does look like the Street Beat. How heavy is it, specs? Thanks!

Fixed blade PPT from Thiel or a custom Perrin bowie.

Looking into it now.

I'm not sure how heavy it is, I'd guess around 5.5 ounces because it feels slightly heavier than my Umnumzaan (which is 5 ounces).

9 inches overall, with a 4.5 inch blade that is 5/32nds inch thick.

A bit too heavy for me. Nice though. I just did a bit research on his knives and people say his fit and finish is not that great. But his knives are cheap for a custom. I may not want to go custom because I don't want to get that deep into fixed blades. But we'll see if I can find a production fixed.

For awesome custom fixed blades, check out Barker Knives. I have other ideas, but I'm trying to think who's books are open.

That knife I got the pic from Szaboinc. They're listed at $400, it's a Perrin Military Bowie. EDC Knives also carries a lot of Perrin stuff.

Here is a Sacha Thiel Fixed PPT. Not sure how much they are, but I would guess less than $400:

Here is some awesomeness from Barker:

WOW! I want any one of them lol SERIOUSLY though...

John Barker knives are just sweet. His tanto and wharncliffe are just awesome. I wonder how many oz are they??

I highly recommend JK Handmade Knives. By everyone's account, John is a terrific guy to work with, he is available to answer questions, and does some really nice work.

I just sent John an email. JK knives is pretty interesting, but he only works with either O1 or 1095.
