Howdy all, first I must say I am once again impressed/slightly shocked at the amazingly fast service from Uncle Bill/HI. I ordered one of the 8-23 specials and received it today! I got the 12" 11oz. village sirupati by Amtrak on a HIKV induced whim, and I dare say the little feller is "cute". I'm hard pressed to find the blem, finding the workmanship excellent as usual.
I had a couple immediate first impressions... first, it's small! My other khuk is a 22" sirupati which seems to suit my size better. The second was, O.K. what am I going to do with this? (besides hold it and grin :D ) I think it may make a decent woodsbummin' pal for cutting annoying brambles etc. Since I have an inquisitive 4 yr old at home, it probably won't see bedside duty.
So, those of you that have similarly sized khuks, how do you use it? I am glad however that I bought it. I think there may be a seax in my future, my inner Viking cries out for one! Nothing like good seax, huh? ;)

Hey Mongo:)
The 12" Siru is a whole different animal when you're used to the big khuks and/or are a larger fella. I kinda of look at my 12" siru (also made my amtrak) as kind of a bent kabar. Nothing i'd really want to do a whole lot of chopping with, but well suited for just about anything you'd press a knife that size into doing. Mine likes to bite me quite a bit. much more than any of its larger brothers (thankfully). I think it has lofty ambitions as a SD khuk. Rusty has one that is pretty infamous for blood lust, IIRC. I think you'd really enjoy the seax. Its pretty light and has a nice thin fullered blade with a very acute, but sturdy enough point. The straight profile of the blade makes it great for long slices. However, it chops better than you'd think! The only thing i can caution about is be careful when you use a chakma to touch it up. The chakma likes to jump off the tip and that razor sharp point really likes to find the tip of your finger:)

HI Seax is an amazing knife. Kumar made this last bunch- UB said he had 4, and since 2-3 have sold I'm pretty sure you may see one as a UBBB soon. Mine is great- easier to sharpen than khuk, solid feel, great piece of Celtic/Nordic history. The rust mentioned was like nothing.

Like you, I snagged one of the 8/23 specials- the 21" Chainpuri. It came last night, and I'm speechless. It became my favorite khuk as soon as it came out of the box. Points like a finger, and fast, fast. Beautiful SoS, loooong sweet spot. Handle nicely checkered, real art. Perfect geometry- a pointer and a chopper. Perfect length. Chakma & Karda also checkered in diff. ways, so you can tell 'em apart without drawing. I must post pix of this one and a review, when I have time. It is a special khuk...

Yup, whenever I pick up Audrey ( the name of the carnivorous plant in Little Shop of Horrrors ) she still demands: FEED ME!

Yup, and when you finally get too try it out you'll find it cuts like a much heavier khuk. My bro Finn tried to explain that the lighter weight when swung created more mass so that it hit harder and cut harder than a heavier khuk, at least he said something like that. I never could, nor have I understood it, just know that it does.:D
Mine is my favorite khuk in that size and weight range!

I had to seperate my favorites into length and weight classes as I have so many favorites. Each one does a different job better than any other khuk can perform that same job! Which is what led to the onset of HIKV disease.  :D ;)
