The missus called me at work today with news. Seems Mr. Brownshirt had a package for me. After I finished the requisite "open it, open it!" I was informed that we had a new resident in the form of a Commander BT. "It looks nice," she said.

I finally made it home, and I introduced myself to the new knife. Comes with a Tuf-Cloth sample, I see. Out of the box, I noticed that the scales are a bit thinner than I thought they were (a good thing). They have a nice texture that should be easy to hang onto. Into the pocket, I waved it open. Me like. Gonna have to practice the deployment, though. The clip is tighter than I expected, which'll secure it well. It's much quieter locking up than the Spyderco: just an unpretentious double-snick that whispers readiness. It has a slight rattle when closed if I shake it hard enough. Have to look into that sometime.

A few more test waves and dexterity drills later, it's growing on me. This is nothing like the Endura; this is a whole 'nother ballgame. It points well, and the recurved blade is sweet. I got tickled at the lawyer-inspired note in the box warning me that the blade was sharp. Of course it is. Anything else would be uncivilized.

The new knife and I have to do a lot more getting to know each other, and it's even going to have its own stunt double (trainer) as soon as it arrived from EKI.

Mr. Emerson, if you're listening, thank you for producing knives for people who use them, and for making a trainer based on a real knife. Now I can get rid of the $3.00 "Dremel Specials" I've been using for training.

1SKS, thank you for the speedy service. I was worried when a couple of email questions weren't answered; I guess you were busy shipping my knife. Fair enough.

Now I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and get myself a lefty Mini Commander for the other side...

Caactus: Congrats on the newest aquisition. I'm always happy to hear of a new home for those Commanders!

;)

Were these carry knives or trainers?

I bought a handful of extremely cheap tanto point knives (2-3 bucks each) at a gun show, ground off the sharp and pointy parts with a Dremel, and used them for training. The rubber knives in existence at the time were inadequate for the kind of feedback we needed in class, so we made our own trainers.
