So I've been playing around with making mag pouches for some friends and this is what I finally came up with. It still needs a belt clip on the back to be fully complete but so far I'm really happy with it. Take a minimalist approach to cut down on belt space and could be easily concealable depending on the day

Here is what I had to work with ( mind the uneven cuts, it's how it turned out when I shaped the flap to the seam)

And here is the completed without the belt clip. Tandy was closed today unfortunately

Let me know what you all think.

VP - as they say there is more than one way to skin a cat! You may consider something like this, which is one piece with a fold over belt tunnel. Minimal footprint and no clip. I'm not a fan of clips on gun gear for a multitude of reasons but the biggest is that when you go to draw it, the magazine needs to leave the pouch. If quick on and off is what's desired you can use a 'pull the dot' snap at the base of the tunnel instead of stitching. Good job and keep at it - magazine pouches are really a challenge when you lay the pattern flat and look at it.

Thanks for the kind words. This one was a bit of a challenge for me since I've just started working with leather.

When you say a "pull the dot snap" what do you mean? Is it just a button snap on the bottom of the pouch? How would it work?

If you have a picture of it that would be great.

Sounds like my buddy will be getting 2 mag carries now!

Thanks again

VP - I'm sorry but I don't have a picture of one done in this method. Try as I might when things get busy the first nicety to go is photo shoots! A 'pull the dot' snap is a directional one way snap. It can only be put on one way, and taken off one way. They are popular in holster work for this reason as you can negate some of the ill effects of a standard snap in that application.

Drew this for you and while it is crude you should get the basic Idea.

In gun related gear accessories is where there is money to be made. Mag pouches, light holders, and of course sheaths. Not everyone understands how to do it and that creates a market. When I mock up a patter I test it like so and adjust stitch lines as needed. You'll see the fruits of this mock up by the end of the weekend on a shoulder rig.

That's pretty easy from the looks of it. I think that's the way I'll have to do it. It didn't dawn on me about the clip issues that could arise when pulling out the mag.

Thanks again man. I'll put some pics up when I get the new one finished
