The minion from USPS dropped off that strange triangle box today.
I cut it open carfully but excited as a kid at christmas. I opened it up and the 12 Inch AK by Bura was inside. Craftmanship was beautifull, fit was fantastic, only blemish I could find was a small scratch on the horn handle. It cut the box it came with in a couple of swings. I think I've caught HIKV. Haven't had a chance to test it cutting wood yet. Now can someone tell me how to fix the scratch in the handle. PS Uncle Bill you'll be getting more of my money soon. Just gotta decide which one to buy. Leaning towards a 15 inch Sirupta.

James, you can work the horn just like wood. Start with some very fine sandpaper, maybe 320 or 400 grit and sand the scratch out. Then go to 400,800, 1000, 1500 and 2000 grit if you can find it. I use the wet-or-dry sandpaper sold in the paint section of the automotive store. Finish by buffing with a muslin buff on a grinding wheel using red rouge polishing compound. If you don't have a grinder, you can put some red rouge on a rag and polish the horn "shoe shine" style.

Oh, the 15" sirupati is a very useful blade. I love mine.

Welcome!

Maybe that's what's wrong with me? :( What effect does horn have on you?

Steve

Apparently in your case it causes you to perform incredibly generous and unselfish acts for people you've never met. :p

and it warps your sense of humor.

Depusm? Leave the scratch. Make more. Cut, hack, hew, carve, slice, dice, build, destroy, create, and chop. Khuks is to be used.

Welcome.

Hi James, welcome to the HI Forum and Congrats on your new 12" AK! The 15" Surupati is a favorite of mine. Had one, but sold it to pay bills a few years ago. Got another this last summer and am really enjoying having one again. Are light but still have good reach. Good brush blades.. So are the 20" Surupati's, which is one of my most used knives. :) Please let us know which you get next! ;):D

Ferguson, you have got to be real careful with the dust from horn, antler and bone. They can raise holy heck with your lungs, causing bacterial and even fungal nastiness. Also, bone and antler aren't easily expelled from your lungs, but I don't know about horn. I guess it smells bad for a reason when you work it ~ it's the good Lord's way of telling you to cover your mouth and nose. ;)
