First Knife - Coil Spring Steel

Nice looking little knife. Great job for the first go:thumbup:
Darcy:)

Good idea posting over here COTS. I think everyone will appreciate that you've made a fantastic first knife.

Looks great for a first knife, looks great in general actually! Any issues you may have had will be easier to spot and overcome the more you do it!

I really like the shape of the blade:thumbup: the texture is awesome too! Very well done

Looking good. Now use, and abuse it for a year or so, then hang it over the fire place to always remember it.

That's a great looking little knife. I always enjoy seeing rough forged flats with satin bevels, especially when wearing some rich colored wood for the handle like this one does. The harpoon tip really adds character too.

One thing that might save you some potential future headaches is to try to not leave too thin of a section of material anywhere on the handle/scales since they can possibly brake or chip off, like at the front of the finger choil, at least when using wood or other materials that can be easily chipped when ground thinly and/or at sharp, acute angles. Not saying that you'll have any problems with this one, but it's just something to keep in mind. :)

Great job, and for it being your first one, and forged nonetheless. :)

Thanks! I actually had the same concern - it's an area where I was thinking too much about looks and not enough about function. In order to get enough stock I had to forge in the bevels slightly (why there are some pits close to the edge on the one side) and so in a tiny section the scales don't even touch the steel at the choil. I am sure they will chip off over time. I also had to shrink my design down to fit the tiny stock material which made that section even smaller. I gotta get something larger than coil springs.

I really like it.
Beautiful work for a first knife.
As Coldsteelburns said, that piece of handle can (and probably in time will) chip off, but You can always make another scales.
Looking forward for Your next project. But beware, forging can be addictive :)
