I definitely am far from producing anything like the beautiful works of art that so many of you turn out regularly, but I'm proud of my first true knife. I've done a few fixed blade blanks from Jantz before, but this is much more gratifying. Right now I'm just working with files, a drill press, and a Harbor Freight anvil for a flat sanding surface. I definitely learned a whole lot about knife design and how not to do things, and that is apparent in the flaws, but man it was fun. (maybe I just say that now because it's finished, because I did swear quite a bit while building it)

I've still gotta polish the knife up a little bit more, but I'm tired right now.

Thank you everyone who has contributed to this forum and has given tips to newbie's like myself.

The blade, bolsters, and spine are all from 1/8" 440C and the liners are 410.

that's a great, solid, first effort!:thumbup::cool:

Very nice, especially for a first, second or 10th knife! :thumbup: You at Fort Resort? Look up the Georgia Custom Knife Guild, they're good people that do a lot of teaching. You might want to circle the second weekend of April on your calendar and come to Batson's Hammerin in Birmingham, Alabama.

Thanks guys!

I cut the lock using a hacksaw and some Dremel cutoff wheels hooked up to my drill press. The Dremel itself died last year while inletting a rifle stock, Dremels don't like GA heat.

I'll look up the knife guild, thanks for the tip. If "Fort Resort" is Ft Gordon, then yes, that's where I'm at.

I was the last graduating class from Brems Barracks (probably tore those warehouse/barracks down) waaaayyy back when. We were 31C radio teletype operators back then.... had to learn CW and all that, real fun sitting at a bar and only tapping allowed at the table for talk.

The Guild is full of great people that really work hard to advance the craft.
