Well I just finished my first and I gotta say it felt pretty good. When my father bought me the tools and supplies for this project, he gave me one condition: I had to make a small paring/general kitchen utility knife. So I came up with this is just 11 short months! It isnt perfect by any means but I learned a LOT making this knife. I got two other knives I'm working on, one ready for HT, and I hope they turn out even better than this one :D Anyways, here are the specs/pics. Enjoy and thanks for all the help along the way guys.

1095 steel blade
Black linen micarta scales
A hair under 8" in length, 3-1/4" blade

hey looks great! keep it up. I just finished my first one, although mine was from a blade blank. Still trying to scrape up some money to get even a small amount of steel to grind one of my own designs. I love hearing about other people who just did their first knife because I know how great it feels!

keep us posted with a review after you have used it for a while.

Thanks for the comments guys! As for performance, haven't done any kitchen chores yet but it's hair popping...I'm almost afraid to let my mom use it as she always gets bit by the kitchen knives.

Xander, I talked to Aldo Bruno and he said he is getting some 1084 FG in 1/8" and 3/16" thickness sometime in January. Aldo's prices are great and 1084 FG is good stuff. You might want to check with him the next time you buy steel. Good luck!

That looks great, nice job and congratulations. What kind of tools did you get?

Erik

A buttload of sandpaper, some Nicholson files, and a Craftsman 2"x42" grinder which was on sale for $75. But by the time I got the grinder, i had already draw filed the bevels in so this one was pretty much all hand tools, with a cordless drill being the only excpetion.

Thanks for the comments again guys!
