Lots of info here really gives people a big helping hand and I am thankful. Here is my first knife I just completed on the belt grinder I just built.

It is ground from 01 heat treated with clay on the back like Walley Hayes shows in his video. Triple tempered, chisel ground with a tapered skeletonized tang wrapped with cord I just received from Hong Kong.

This will be my shop knife and get some heavy use.

I must say I really like the Blaze belts and the Trizact 337 belts. They are light years better then belts I have used in the past.

Thanks

Well Hoss-Fly, that is a pretty slick looking blade. Let us know how it performs.

O-1 is some mighty fine stuff if you get the heat treat right.

I need to work on my plunge lines. those are freaking amazing. my fourth knife looks like a convex compared to that.

Thanks guys, much appreciated.

Right now I have it drying after having coated the handle. The wrap never looks quite as nice once coated :)

I forgot to mention I have some real nice rayskin but did not want to use it on my first build. So what I did is do something I have used in the past to coat grips for pistols and gun stocks. I used a spray on truck bed liner. It has a good texture and when cured is as tough as nails. I think I will use it as a coated for the handle again on a neck knife. Several very light coats keeps it nice and even, if spray heavy it can be clumpy.

When I did my grinder build I put on a heat treated 01 platen and did some mild radii on it. I also used a "Bubble Jig" and that help keep me level. Once the grind was even and where I wanted I finished it freehand.

Nice, I like the shape, it'll work great as a shop knife with that profile. I love the handle, one of these days I've got to learn how to cord wrap a handle.

Did you mean to say it was your first knife for THIS WEEK? Very nice! You must have done a lot of homework before you put steel to grinder.

Thanks everyone.

Now I need to focus and get a heat treating forge set up and do something about a makers mark.
