Good evening! Wanted to post some pics of a knife I just finished. If this isn't the right place, please move to somewhere more appropriate. Just wanted to get some feedback.

I love a good fixed blade and that's a nice one. Can you tell us more about it? Is the blade a Farriers rasp?

Seriously nice fixed-blade. I can't imagine this wouldn't be the place for it. I love the grain in that handle and from what I can tell in the angle shot it's got some nice thick contoured handles. Please share some more details and photos if you can.

Nice work! I too would love some more information and maybe some work in progress pictures:thumbup:

I've been reading on here for quite awhile now. Just recently purchased a vise and some tools to try my hand at building one. This is a wore out farrier's rasp. I put it in the fireplace and annealed it over night. Then I cut it to shape with a hand grinder. I was going for something similar to Jeff White's Pathfinder Scout Knife. After I cut it to shape I heat treated it in a charcoal grill (heated to non-magnetic and quenched in Canola Oil). I tempered it in a kitchen oven at 400 degrees for 1.5 hours. I hand sanded the blade to 400grit. The handles are Bois d'arc from a tree I cut down a few years ago after some wind damage. The handle slabs had been curing in the shed for a couple of years. I put the slabs on with epoxy and pins. I made some mistakes placing my pins, and originally planned on a lanyard tube, but didn't have a sharp enough bit to drill the tube hole. I sanded the slabs to 1000grit and put a Tru Oil finish on. It will shave hair and slice copy paper. I put so much into it, I've been scared to chop through a 2x4, lol! (To be honest, I don't have too many occasions to chop through 2x4s, but I like to show that one will shave!) I sharpened it through 1200 grit stones on an EdgePro, then finished the microbevel on a Sharpmaker.

Not much of a fixed blade fan at all, but that is pretty awesome!

Mate.
Thats my sorta knife.
Love it.
Thanks for the rundown on the process.
Cheers.

I love a good fixed blade as well.

The Farriers Rasp- are these hardened? If so ( asking to learn here ) why did you go to the trouble of the heat quench?

Was that because of the Grinding? I have reshaped a couple of knives and used a slow sander rather than grinder to keep the heat down so as no to distress the metal- I'm not too sure if I am on the right track or not?

But your knife is just a awesome looking knife- you should be proud as I know I would be 👍

I was having fun and didn't think about taking any pictures.
Thanks for all the kind words. I learned a lot on this first one.

Great execution. Seems like a perfect knife. The handle looks great. What are the specs on the knife? Blade and handle length? Seems like you have started a new hobby.

Very nice looking! You did a great job and I really like rasp knives. What is the blade length?
