I started asking questions here about 9 months ago and I am finally getting close to finishing my first knife.

When I started this I was using a 1x42 Wilton Grinder (I have a KMG now :)). It gave me fits a few times, but there were always good people here to answer my questions. I'd like to say thanks for all the advice.

I still have to finish polishing the blade and oiling or varnishing the scales. I decided to go ahead and post some pictures anyway.

The knife was ground from 440C and has Madrone scales.

Comments Welcome...

Thanks,
Chris

I really like the blade shape, and the handle looks awesome, really nice work man

Chris,

That knife looks extremely well made and its very beautiful as well.
I think those nine months of work paid off for that kind of result.

Mike

Thanks for the positive responses.

I decided to try my hand at this after joining this forum in February. I made one knife from an already completed blade from Jantz. Gluing and shaping scales just didn't do the trick for me. So here I am 9 months and about $4000later a happy (broke) knife maker!

This one is going to my Step Dad, he collects knives and I have given him one EVERY Christmas since 1976. This year I'm delivering it in person and I think he will be very surprised. He has no clue I started making knives. I was in Ohio in July and it was all I could do to keep quiet about it!

Thats a big step jumping up to a KMG.

It looks good but the handle looks pretty flat in the picture. If it were me, I would maybe try to put more contour so that there is maybe a palm swell. It looks great as is, but might make it a little more comfy in hand.

It is a little flat, but it's fairly thick. I just held it and I see what you mean. I think It's too late for this one, theres really not alot of material left to work with. It will most likely spend all its life on display in my Dads collection and just handled to show his friends when they come over. If I do that blade shape again the handle is getting an addintional 1".

As a Step Dad, I would bust at the seams to receive something like this. Good for you, and for what I perceive as a good relationship with your Step Father. It's nice to hear stories like these. He'll love it!

Well, I finished my First Knife! It took a while, but I wanted to do my best. I think my Step-Dad will like it...

I still can't resist polishing it some more, but I'm pretty happy with it.
