Well Today I ordered my first "good" knife. I got the Kershaw mini cyclone. All my other knifes have been cheap folders. After holding and using some of my friends more expensive, higher quality knifes I immediatly noticed a difference. I funny how addicting knifes become. I havent even recieved the mini cyclone and im already thinking about what knife to get next(probably a leek and a BM mini griptilian). Once the knife gets here ill try and get some pictures and write some sort of review.:)

Congrats on the new knife! Yes, it is very addicting. I've gone a bit crazy on some on my new acquired knives. I'm taking a liking on Chris Reeve Sebenza, Kershaw Leek, Spyderco Manix, etc. Have fun and enjoy the hobby.

I'm in a similar situation...as of two weeks ago I had no idea what a good knife was. I stumbled onto this site and two days later I ordered an Endura Wave (which i recieved a week ago). I then ordered a leek (which i received today) and was close to ordering a mini-cyclone but opted for a Tactical Blur (will hopefully come in tomorrow) instead because of a very good ebay deal i couldn't pass up.

Much like yourself I'm also eyeballing a mini grip as my next purchase but will have to wait a bit till my bank account recovers.

I don't suppose you have ever been spotted in the middle of the night in the Keys wearing a tank, flippers, and mask have you? Just wondering if you could possibly be someone I know. If the above makes no since then disregard this post.

Nope not me.

just got my first "good" knife today. its a kershaw leek and i love it! It is so sharp and well made. it doesn't even compare to the no-name knife i bought at big 5. By the end of the night, i probably wont have any arm hair left.

Sounds like Kershaw is bringing more Knuts into the fold! :D Welcome! Check out my collection at this thread if you like Kershaws:

nygiantsfan3342, hey. Yeah, it seems like a lot of people are starting out with kershaws, like me. they seem to be well made to me, have cool assisted openers, and are not too pricey.

Oh, and i saw your collection. HOLY COW! that's a lot of leeks. it looks awesome.

In the future, i think my next knife will either be a large kershaw cyclone, spyderco endura wave, BM Griptilian, or Buck Strider 889 or tarani. it's getting to be kind of addicting.

It's always nice to see someone making the move to higher quality knives. A move that I feel a person will never regret.

totally dude. after playing with my leek a couple hours today, shaving my arm hair and my chin, and shredding every scrap of paper i can find, it's easy to see that these are good quality knives. it's a pretty solid construction with absolutely no blade play.

then, i picked up my cheapy $5 made in china p.o.s. and it doesn't open smoothly, there is blade play up, down, left, and right, the blade tears things rather than actually cutting, and it just feels cheap. i kind of want to just huck it, but maybe i'll experiment with it and break out the dremel and see if i can put a "wave" on it.

i am glad i found this site, because i've learned a lot, and i'm glad i've made the move to good quality knives.

Well do I know the feeling ;).

I started-out a few months ago just looking for a good folder. One good folder, was all. While researching that, I came across a Deal That Couldn't Be Beat (CRKT S-2's [large] on clearance for $25) and bought one of those. Okay, that was a deal that couldn't be turned down. An aberration, right?

It would seem not.

By the time I identified and obtained my first... make that second, by then, good folder (a Spyderco Delica 4, btw), I had at least one other folder on The List (a Kershaw blue-black Chive) and was starting to look at fixed blades. I now have my first fixed blade on the way, with three folders and three fixed blades on The List--and that's w/o having added any BRKT knives yet.

I the mean-time, I really need to get back to getting proficient with that Spyderco Sharpmaker and freshen-up the edges on my Delica and S-2, before they get so far it'd be real work.

Welcome to the forums ScubaSteve and congrats on your new knife. This from someone who was ScubaBill in a former life. I did most of my diving on wrecks in the Great Lakes, mostly Lake Superior. I also did a little cave diving in Northern Florida. How about you?

I got the big Cyclone and love it - it's been my EDC for a couple months. The steel is awesome (it's akin to AEB-L, apparently), takes an absolutely terrifying edge. And the grind geometry couldn't be better. Enjoy.

The biggest regret I have in my knife buying is I have all these knives now and have no good place to "show/store/put/keep" them! Yhey lay all over my desk, pc desk, on top of the pc and cabinet, and sometimes in my chair!

They be like tribbles!

I like the Kershaws, but as a close second to the Benchmades. I love the Benchmade griptilian and mini-griptilian knives, models 551 and 556.
