This is my first knife made for a client specifically. (Kind of nerve-wracking)
3/16" 01 tool steel
Flat ground
About 13" overall / 7"+ blade
Black linen micarta
mild steel pins
There are a looooootttt of things that need to be addressed, but I do like the style. Next round I'll be getting the damn edge thinner so it doesn't look like it's been sharpened on a can opener/sharpener for 20 years:barf: Good news is that it did take a wicked edge despite the ugliness. Criticism is welcome. It will be a minor miracle if I can get the link right before my login times out. Thanks for looking.

Aside from the points you stated it looks like a good usable knife. The handles seem a little dull in the photo, but that might be the lighting. Your grinds look real consistant on both sides. There are only two things missing from this knife. A makers mark and a good sheath. Your customer should love this knife.

Hey I really like that design; I think it's really nice besides what you already mention. How long is the blade on that? It almost looks like a flat grind with a scandi edge!! I bet that thing will get really sharp!

Yeah, I was joking with a friend that I could just keep on moving the edge up for a saber edge:rolleyes: As far as the maker's mark, I'm at a little bit of a loss. A co-worker's daughter (graphic artist) might be coming up with a mark for me, but I'd like to get a stamp in the meantime. I really didn't expect to be selling anything for a while, but people get excited about knives, even if they aren't the best they've ever seen. It's nice, but I'd like a little time to get everything to my satisfaction before I sell another one. I also have to get some leather sheath-making supplies, but there's no space (especially clean space) in the 12' x 12' shop. I did one kydex sheath for an early knife, but I hate the way it scratches blades and bolsters. Plus I'm just partial to the leather.

Anyway, thanks a lot for the feedback. Have a great weekend.

Dave

Thanks Haze. The thickness was not consistent on the edge. I got to a point where I had burned through several belts trying to thin and even it up, but the problem was that the thinnest part was in the middle, as you can tell by the width of the grind line there, and it was getting maddening trying to apply pressure, relent, apply pressure, in the appropriate areas. The bottom line is that the next one is going to have to be thinner and consistent before the heat treat. I'm working on the next one now and already it's looking better because I know what to look out for. That being said, it ain't over 'til the edge is in. And the handle does need finish sanding and re-buffing. The client's father's birthday isn't until April, so I'll be polishing it up before it goes out the door. He'll still be getting a pretty good deal, considering the price after supplies will average out to around a buck fifty an hour:) It'll be nice to get more supplies with the money to help sustain the habit, anyway:D

Regards,

Dave
