Hey guys,

Been lurking around for a few weeks learning as much as possibly can from everyone. Finally had a go at my first knife. 1080 steel with a forced patina and micarta scales. I decided to make the scales removable because I wasn't sure how I wanted to finish the blade and I wanted a uniform finish across the blade. Hardened the exposed tang because I have a tendency to whack things with the pommel when a hammer is not available. Overall I'm happy with it. There are numerous flaws that I will attempt to fix in version 2. but the bevels are symmetrical and the plunge lines were not terrible. The only power tool I used was a drill press. Everything else was done by hand. HT was done with a can forge (not the best, but it got the job done) and tempered in my oven when the missus was away. lol.

This was tons of fun and I'm hooked! Nothing more satisfying than using it and cutting through things effortlessly, even if the HT was less than perfect (For being an exact science, there is a hell of a lot of art to it)

Also the first time I have made a sheath. I was suprised as hell that worked out so well! LOL

Sorry about that fellas. Still trying to figure this thing out. Thought I could copy / paste a pic in. Guess not. Let me see if I can get this thing to go from Google Photos.

Thank you everyone for the positive feedback. Planning on starting the next one this weekend. Gonna borrow an angle grinder because profiling with the hack saw is no fun. I'll let y'all know how it goes!

I suggest not throwing out your hacksaw.
I don't mind it and can make 30-40" of cuts in about half an hour with reasonable precision.
It helps to drill some holes first.

You are right on the precision. I was able to cut pretty darned close to the final shape and finish with a file. But it was a hell of a lot of work. I like you idea with drilling the holes though. I'll give that a shot this weekend. Thanks for the tip! BTW, I like your Karambit profile. What steel are you using and how thick?

Those were 3/16" CPM 3V. I finished the handles with heat colored titanium.
I even used the little scrap in the middle to make a lapel dagger.

OMG Dude, those are incredible! Knife Making Goals!
I finished up a Kiridashi I made for my dad as a father's day gift. I'll post that up in a little as a new post.

Thanks. To be honest, as I slowly progress in this hobby my standard for what I'm happy with steadily increases.
I did those a while ago, so now looking at the photos I mainly see what I would have liked to do better...
