Knife Rights' Switchblade Commerce Bill Introduced in Virginia

At the request of Knife Rights, Virginia State Senator Bryce Reeves introduced SB1251 which, if enacted, would allow a manufacturer, distributor, or retailer to possess or sell switchblade knives, and parts thereof, so long as they are sold or exported outside of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Enactment of SB1251 would create jobs and provide a much needed revenue boost to the commonwealth.

Repeal of Weapons Ban in Places of Worship Filed in Virginia

In response to the multiple instances of attacks in churches and other places of worship, Senator Richard Black has introduced SB 1024 that would repeal Virginia's ban on carrying "a gun, pistol, bowie knife, dagger, or other dangerous weapon" to a "place of worship while a meeting for religious purposes is being held."

If enacted, this bill would clearly allow carry of any Virginia legal knife in a place of worship. Last year this bill was passed by the Senate, but was never taken up in the House.

Knife Rights' Knife Owners' Protection Act Re-Introduced in Congress

Originally conceived and authored by Knife Rights in 2010 and first introduced in 2013, the Knife Owners' Protection Act of 2019, H.R. 88, ("KOPA") was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives on the first day of Congress by Arizona Representative Andy Biggs. KOPA will remove the irrational restrictions on interstate trade in automatic knives that are legal to one degree or another in 44 states, while also protecting the right of knife owners to travel throughout the U.S. without fear of prosecution under the myriad patchwork of state and local knife laws.

Co-sponsors are: Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC-11), Rep. Robert E. Latta [R-OH-5], Rep. Jeff Duncan [R-SC-3], Rep. Debbie Lesko [R-AZ-8], Rep. Paul A. Gosar [R-AZ-4] and Rep. Randy K. Weber Sr. [R-TX-14].

The bill has not yet been published, but it is identical to last session's H.R. 84

Getting this bill introduced is only the first step. We need your help to gain additional co-sponsors. Please email your Representative and urge them to co-sponsor this commonsense legislation. You can use Knife Rights' Legislative Action Center to easily email your Representative in Congress at: http://www.congressweb.com/KnifeRights/23

That Virginia automatics manufacture bill is interesting. Is it legal to carry automatics in the state?

I just emailed my Congresswoman about repealing the 1958 FSA.
There is absolutely no reason why some States allow them and others do not. Absurd.
Thanks again Doug and Kniferights for all you guys do

Man do I know all about BS knife laws. Try having your Government alow the Border officers to start seizing the exact same knives (make model and all) that there selling at a department store just up the road in the same town! It's totally insane and I can't for the life of me understand how there justifying it. Anyways that's my rant sorry lol.

Every archaic moral panic "switchblade" law from the 50's needs to just go away.

Unfortunately, they don't "just go away." We have to work very hard to get rid of them, one at a time, sometimes over multiple years of effort. All that costs a good deal of money. While repealing restrictive knife laws that don't make any sense is not a bad thing, the Virginia bill sounds like pork barrel politics to me. How many knife manufacturers are actually in Virginia? How many jobs can they create? Are there enough large manufacturers that can hire thousands of people to make automatic knives in numbers sufficient to generate "a much needed revenue boost"? Or are there just one or two knife manufacturers that would stand to gain from this?

It's politicians playing politics.
I'll take it any way we can get it, but you are correct.
It's pandering.

Keep in mind, the KOPA of 2019 is co-sponsored by Republicans, who held majorities in both the house and Senate last year.. but not this year.
They had basically no opposition then, and it could have been passed.
Now its a good possibility it won't even make it to a vote.

It looks like pure political theatre to wait until now.

It's a day late and a dollar short and they know it.

Whether knives or guns, whether carrying a basic tool for odds and ends or a tool to defend your life, this is basic liberty. I'm just some guy on the internet but I'd like to thank everyone involved in the process here. One thing most of us can contribute is a few letters, both thanking the representatives supporting our rights and respectfully letting others know why they should add their support.

Having said that, and thank you, I am afraid where I am, is a lost cause.
Our newly elected Governor believes in a Sanctuary State for Illegal Immagrants. Our State is 95% controlled by Democratic Leadership for about 30 years now.
What they say, and do, is law..no matter what.
My wife and I are the hell outa here soon so help us God.

Your welcome up north:thumbsup:

Move to the southeast.
I moved my family back home to Georgia last year.
Knife owners paradise.
I can legally carry automatic knives in the same pocket as my semi-automatic handgun.
Nature and trees everywhere, incredible hospitality, and freedom.
Oh,...I paid $1.78 a gallon yesterday:D

I spent 9 years south of Coachella, CA and closed a good business to get out of that nightmare of a state.
Property laws aren't enforced there anymore, and they are doing everything they can to remove citizens right to defend their families, and tax them into poverty.
They want total dictatorial rule over a subservient populace.

Possession of a throwing star is a felony in CA
Can anyone make sense of that?
Movie magic dictates law?
Has anyone ever been killed by a throwing star outside of a cheesy martial arts movie?
