I finally found some 0-1 tool stock, 3/16" and am in the process of making a spear/drop point utility out of it, about 3.5" blade, 4" handle or so. I blanked it out with a hacksaw and files and now I am working on putting a flat grind on it with files. it is going pretty well, but will take a little while. Now I know why a disc sander was recommended! I'll try to get pics of it someway or another.

Blade 1 is going to be heat treated today and the handles will be put on tonight, and shaped tomorrow. Blade number 2 might get heat treated today, but im not sure yet. #2 is a drop point, about the same size as the first blade.

I am going to the machinist/welder who gave me the 0-1. He used a welding torch to heat it, quenched it in oil at room temp and then reheated it a little to temper it. he did another blade for himself before and it came out nice. I didnt sharpen mine yet. Ill prob send #2 to Dr. Lathe or Howard Clark. Dr. Lathe is the one who got me started with making my own blades, so i want him to see what ive done so far.

Dr. lathe is Neil Blackwood. I dont think he usually heat treats for people. I am just starting out and don't have the know how to heat treat and stuff, so he offered to heat treat one for me and that way he could see how I was doing and suggest different tips and ideas and let me know what to change for the next blades. your best bet is probably Howard Clark. he does everything for $10 a blade, including cryo i think. mvforge.com I think is his website.

Oops...Howard doesn't cryo. Sorry.
