Well technically my first knife with paracord wrap broke due to me cutting the bevel too thin at the edge.

Here it is cut out, and with the initial bevel.

Here are the scales and rivets layed out.

A nice way to remember making my first knife.

Ricasso fit check, and probably the best the blade looked finish wise.

Finished and sharpened. Darn stone grit went and scratched up my pretty blade.

I attempted a CA finish, but found with the complicated shape of the scales I kept removing certain areas of the glue. Any help there would be great so I can get that fantastic look it adds.

Any thoughts comments are welcome.

I'm already working on two O-1 chef knifes for my mom and sis. And will be starting on some 440-C folders soon.

Thanks guys for all the help, insight, knowledge, and and general respect you all have for one another, and us newbs.

Good Lord what happened to your finger??? Please do tell so I don't do whatever it is that you did.

The knife is looking good. I like the 3 different size pins.

What sort of heat treat did you do or did you send it out?

Way to tackle chef's knives so early into making knives. Hope they turn out nice.

The finger was on a 5400 rpm disk sander. I wasn't using a push stick. Contact was for about a 1/2 second. I was happy it wasn't worse, though I may never feel in the very center of it again. :(

The material was spring Steel 1095 It comes at C53-C59. I had a few small pieces laying around, so I used them.

Been there. Done that. Don't want to do it again. Isn't it some sort of unwritten rule that you MUST leave a little bit of your DNA with each blade that you make? ;-)

That is a nice job. The knife looks usable and well made.

Using stabilized wood for the scales will eliminate the need to use a super-glue finish. You can get it dyed and stabilized by WSSI, and it will buff up to a nice finish. Sand it to a fine grit and lightly buff on a clean linen buff with matchless white polish. It will shine and the burl/grain character of the wood can look like it is in 3-D.

nice knife I like the color and the different sized rivits.
I did the same thing to my finger last summer, but worse its still flat and funny looking

Next time you don't use a push stick, at least wear gloves.

If I were you, I'd tell people that you stained the wood with your own blood and when they question you about it, just show them the scar on your finger. :D

Good knife. Try not to loose a finger to it.

That's alright the first blank I cut out with a hacksaw I put the hacksaw through my index finger. That was over a year ago and I still have no real feeling where the scar is.

Nice looking knife you got there though keep it up

The last two I did, I didn't lose any blood to. Either I am getting better or just lucky. I still am blood free on the one I am finishing up right now, so if I make it through this one blood free that will make 3 in a row:D

Knock on wood I keep the string going, because I have had a few good ones that have required gluing and stitching to close up, and I don't want to go back to the hospital and explain how I keep cutting myself:eek:

Thanks guys. I owe most of the credit to the members of this forum.

How much for the dye and stabilize? NVM found it. Looks good I'll send out the next sets to them.
