This is my first real knife. I used an old USA made Arcade file. I annealed it, shaped it, normalized it, hardened it in my forge, and tempered it. Then I sanded it and sanded it and sanded it some more. I had 8 hours in sanding and polishing the blade. Next time I'm doing some sanding before hardening. The scales are curly osage. The sheath is beaver tail on leather. This knife will see some action this fall. I had some problems with the scales fitting. Criticism welcome. I'm here to learn.

And a picture to remind me of all the work I put into it.

Nice work.
That wood is something else...osage that figured, you don't see every day.

Tad

Thanks. I cut that osage tree down to make bows from. The figure was beautiful but it wasn't good bow wood.

I'm a sucker for Osage. Especially if you work it while it's still yellow. My little block has turned brown but the few handles I've made from it are still yellow. That's a beauty you have there. Nice job!

Nothing to criticize there. You did a very good job. I especially like the look that the file marks give it.

This must be the same Osage Outlaw from Primitive Archer eh? Nice knife!

Big Haze, it doesn't matter if you work and finish osage when it is yellow, it will still darken over time, can't change that. I have an old production bow from the 50's in my collection that is nearly black. If you scrape your block down a bit you will see that it is still yellow under there.

Yep. I'm on Primitive Archer. I'm enjoying making knives as much as I do making bows.

Thanks for all the compliments guys.
