Hello!

I've been lurking around here for a while now. Just soaking up all the information I can. Thanks to everyone here I finally finished my first knife. I've learned a lot.

Here's the knife:
Aldo's 1084 heated in my diy gas forge to a bit past non magnetic and quenched in canola
Tempered twice at 450
7 1/2" overall with 3" blade 1/8" thick by 3/4" wide
Rosewood scales set with peened copper pins and 1/4" copper tube and finished with linseed oil
Sharpened at 17 degrees with Lansky system

I know there are many things I can improve on next time. I left the edge way too thick before heat treat. The edge is thicker toward the plunge. I should add a slight bevel at the front edge of the scales. I think it would look more balanced with about 1/4" longer blade and a slight curve to the spine from the drop point to the back of the handle.

I had fun with this one and have a couple more in the works. Any feedback or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome to Shop Talk. Nice first knife. Finish looks excellent. Perhaps the handle is a tad long and thin, but the "hour glass" flow looks nice. Looking forward to seeing your next one.

Thanks guys! It's a lot of work with only files and sandpaper but I had fun. Maybe later on I'll be able to pick up a grinder.

That is a clean looking knife. Superb first try. No one will ever see my first knife, even though I still have it :D

Shoot Ren, that is beautiful first knife! I've only made two myself, but pretty sure I made the exact same mistakes as you and my process was identical. I'm with Stacy, the handle is long, but it is so shapely I like it!
