First Knife

:confused: got some steel.. gonna try to make a knife.. any info would be great help, gonna try to grind it down..... i dunno how to use heat or anything like that....... i dunno anything.. all i know is how to use a knife :foot:

you got a lot of reading to do here on BFC..but it's the place to get info you need..

away everything that doesn't look like a knife..leave the rest..

Get some books,or magazines and coppy the one you like the best.There is probablt a good reason you like it. Pay attention to edge geometry. think of bullets, arrows, fish, etc. All things that pass through material. You want to minimize friction and resistance as your blade passes through material.
When you have the right shape, it needs a good heat treat, or it's just a knife-shaped piece of steel. It would help if you could track down a knifemaker in your area to bother. they are generally more than willing to part with info.
Be cautious. knifemaking is severely habbit forming!
