Hi Everyone,
I've been lurking here for a few days, reading a bunch of threads, and I went out today and bought a CRKT today. Last time I bought a folding knive was in high school 17-18yrs ago. I bought 3 or 4 "utility" knives a couple of years ago figuring that way there'd always be one around. Nope. Amazing how even the bright orange and lime green ones can disapear in my garage and basement.
So I read a bunch about steels, different manufacturers, etc. Went down to my local gun shop where they sell Benchmade, Kershaw, Emerson, Gerber, CRKT and a bunch of others. Was going to get the new benchmade 921with two blades, one in s30v and the other in 440c, or a Kershaw Boa in 440v I think.
It's funny, despite being a techno-geek, I wound up buying a CRKT Wasp with the combo blade (no plain edge in stock). Wasn't the $45 savings, was simply that it looked friendlier and felt OK. Not as comfy as the Boa, but better than the 921. Besides, I figured that if I managed for almost 20yrs without a pocket knive, it would be plenty good enough for me. AND, I won't need to use sheet metal snips to cut twine again, like I did this afternoon!
Took my $84 purchase home, took the scales off and gently rounded off the bottom of the grip with a dremel. Then I rounded the edges of the scales with an emory board. Now I'm happy! It's clearly not that Anderson beauty (I think that's the right name, sorry if my memory is off)I saw on the Wharncliff thread. That'll be one I'll wish for for a while. But it's practical, not too costly, not too mean looking to use in public, and mine.
I never would have gotten around to buying a pocket knive if you guys here at blade forums hadn't reminded me how much I like them. So thank you.
Todd
