First knives I've finished in a long time.

Necker and hunting knife for a customer's son. He wanted them to match a hunting knife his son likes a lot.

Both blades are 1084, differentially heat treated, 800x hand rub finish, SS guard, cocobolo spacer, the necker has a whitetail deer crown, the small hunter has red deer antler.

Feel free to criticize, it's been awhile. I wanted to add a butt cap or something but the knife they're patterned after didn't have one so ah well.

Man, these are crappy pictures... I'll work on getting a better one or 2 cause the blade shapes don't seem right lol

Well, they`re both beautiful work. But I can`t say a stag crown would make for a very comfortable neck-knife. The knives look fantastic though. Big thumbs up!

Chosen, the necker is actually very comfortable in use. It's used as a 3 finger with a finger running on the spine and the crown rests nicely in the palm of your hand.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Those look great Will. I really like the look of the guards.

BTW I'm gonna call you tonight to get the details about the meeting tomorrow.

I think chosen means the crown might be uncomfortable while carried in a neck sheath.
Most neckers tend to be thin, slender knives.

They look great to me!

You're probably right but this is for a kid and most likely won't be worn much at all. lol

Thanks for the comments guys, any advice or criticism other than my picture taking is appreciated. ;)

I think both knives have a nice use of mixed materials, Cocobolo looks good along side the stag. The handles look equals the blade and neither distract from the overall look. The top knife may have a little to much flat area where the stag meets the wood, but that's because I don't have it in my hand. Form follows function.

I have seen your design book and as I said before, things are going to happen for you. Your designs are going to blow peoples minds when your Bladesmithing skills equal your design skills.

Don't try to impress people, Don't look at what other people are doing, Kiss the wife, lock yourself in the shop with a six pack of Mtn Dew and a bag of chips and allow your designs to flow from your book and into steel.

That's just two cents from a nobody Bladesmith.

"Nobody Bladesmith" thank you for your critique Dale. One day you gotta let me look into your sketchbook, maybe next time I come up? Kiss Miss Steph and the kids for me and spend some time with the family, don't waste your time on lil ole me :)

Anything I do right is from your teaching, anything I do wrong is my fault as a student :p
