Shot on my drawing board, south facing window to the camera's right and a 16" flourescent bulb on the left. White paper backdrop.

My dad whittled me the wooden knife when I was too small for a 'real' one.
The other was from the Flushing World's Fair. Real aluminum blade, compass in the handle, and ready for adventure.
Notice the worn off fringes and hole in the sheath.
:D

I see you haven't split your tops. That stucks.

My dad taught me to put a nail through the top. On person throws, while spinning, the other person throws their top (also with a nail) at the first persons top, trying to split it in half. Of course I killed my brothers top. :D They were home lathed by my mom's friend.

Old stuff is cool!

Nice shot BTW. :)

Crack Top!
The rules changed by neighborhood, from what I remember, everyone spins at once. First to fall goes into the circle where everyone else gets free shots at it until the top in the circle gets knocked out of the circle or broken.
The little yellow guy could spin forever...
Split a bunch of tops with him too. Those red, white and blue ones would split if you looked at them crooked!

Great composition! Ahhhh, the World's Fair in Flushing. 1964.

I remember buying a commemorative ring. My first. My finger was green by the time I got home. I also remember being too small to ride the go-karts. I didn't reach the line. :( Other than that, I had a blast!

Thanks for such a nice shot and fond memories!

I have 2 versions of the knife with the compass in it great pic, and a compliment from Coop  now that's worth somthin'. :)

Awesome...I remember my first knife was a SAK that I ended up giving to a friend. It's interesting; even then I loved knives.

great pic, and a compliment from Coop now that's worth somthin'.

I'm blushing :o

The Coopster is an inspiration to all us part time shutterbugs.
:D

Thanx all.

I love this photo. You have such a worthy compilation of items, and they are all so memorable. I just spotted the air chuck needle. Cool!

The hardest part of setting this up was not getting a big reflection in the magnifying lens. That was one of my prize possesions.
The only thing missing is Spaulding or Pensy Pinky rubber ball.
I can still hear my Mom saying:
"Will you stop bouncing that ball and listen to me?!"
:D

Bravo Wally!

What a great shot. You brought back a ton of memories with that photo.

I went back to see what Tex had said and then I realized you was talking about me. :D

Wally you inspired me, only I'm away from home with none of my mementos to put together into a still life. While sitting around back at my hotel room this is what I came up with. I like to call it, "Dinner".

The lighting is an incandesent wall mounted light behind and to the right of the subject. I usually hate using hot lights for taking pics because color correction can be a PIA. However, I found that Photoshop CS has some hidden filters that can make color correction much, much easier. They're not in the Filter menu. They're located in the Layers pallette, down the bottom, the half white half black ball icon, "Create New Fill or Adjustment Layer". Click on that and then Photo Filter and there you'll find 85 & 81 Warming filters and 80 & 82 Cooling Filters. The 82 is what I used to correct this pic. Even better about these Photo Filters is there's a Density slider to control the amount. If you you have CS you gotta try it if you haven't already.

Those filters are definately handy.
I had used them on some other (nonknife) stuff and the results were good.
Then I forgot where they were!
Thanx :o

I'm glad you you've got all three food groups there:
Clear Liquid
Colored Liquid
and
Something else

I do like the shot, you you've got sort of a "home away from home" thing goin' on :D
