This has probably been done before but what the hey,,
What was your first knife? How old were ya? what happened to it?

Mine was an old barlow I found in my backyard when i was about 8 or 9.
As I remember it took me 2 days of soaking in oil just to get the blade open! When I finally did I then lovingly cleaned the blades up with, (gasp!) sandpaper, hey I was just a kid, it was with that knife that I didcovered that you could get wood from a tree, (and also my first knife cut) which I proudly ran to show my mom (the wood, not the cut) shen wasn't impressed, instead she relieved me of the knife, and I never saw it again,.

Dam i miss that knife

Anyway, i lost it while playing in a monsoon(read: big) drain a couple of years back. Felt kindda sad back then.......but who knows, if i didn't lose that knife, i probably wouldn't be in this hobby(read

I'm probally wrong about this, but I THINK that my 1st knife was the Cub Scout Case Knife that my Maternal Grandfather gave to me for joining the Cub Scouts when I was about 8&1/2 years old.

I got two at about the same time, can't remember which was first, it's been over 30 years. One was an Ulster Scout Knife that my parents gave me, the other was my first purchase, a Solingen-made fixed blade with stag handle and aluminum pommel. I lost the scout knife, still have the other one.

I still have the majority of knives from when I was a kid as that was kind of the start of my collection. I used to make monthly walks to our nearest Hardware Store to pick out my next knife interest then put in many hours doing yard work to finally get enough money to buy. But the one that I still keep in my daily carry herd is a SAK Officier Suisse. I got it for my 10th Birthday and remember it was the absolute prize well into high school.

Looking at the knife I can recall different scratches and what the nature of the scar was... Like the time I put a small chip into the smaller blade trying to open the car door that I locked my keys in as I was in a hurry to my first 'makeout' session with my girlfriend and BOY did we get in trouble for being late... There's a small burn in it from the tip of an incense stick landing on it in a tragic accident during one of my first 'mind expanding' experiments... Knife is still in great shape and doesn't smell like bong water anymore and the resin stains have all been washed clean and probably the hardest duty it has seen in many years is as a 'worry stone'... When my Grandparents over the years died I spent many moments and sometimes long hours running my fingers along the knife, opening the blades and tools recalling memories of all kinds through the past years. That knife is truly a friend.

First real, NIB knife was when I was about 9 or 10. It was a mid-sized OLD TIMER pocket knife. I had one's before it but they were rusty hand-me-downs.

My coolest knife was a Spanish bayonet I got when I was 15.

My first decent knife was only a few years ago in a SOG Magnadot which I still have in mint cond. The edge just needs to be touched up.
