I know this has been done before, but I enjoy seeing various "Firsts" from the well known makers.

Here's one from a not so famous(and, probably never will be) knifemaker(me). Blade was forged from an old W2 Nicholson Black Diamond file, with Kevin Cashen heat treat. What you can't see in this picture, is a very active hamon(might show up if I ever rub the blade fine enough). Handles are ironwood with brick colored liners and full tapered tang. Stainless screws and thonghole liner. I still have this knife, and will not sell or trade it, until I get all the scratches going in the proper directions. ;)

Cmon, let's see some more "Firsts".

Nice lookin' knife Danbo. Soon after you get that forge going I'm going to have to get on your list! ;)

If someone can post a pic for me, I can show you my first attempt. Never put handle material on it because the steel was softer than I knew at the time, or put any proper finish but I learned something. Make sure you know what steel your working with first! I'm obviously not famous, so not even sure if I should ask?

heh thanks!I know it isn't anywhere near everyone else's, but it was my first and I'm proud of it. I need loads of learning and practice:)

I am always deadly embarassed by the superb efforts you folks turn out as "firsts" and "seconds" etc.

Sharpknivr. I am very intrigued by your design. It just screams CUTTING TOOL to me and I am jsut thinking it would suit a horticultural or agricultural purpose very well.

Dudley - that is an awesome knife. I think the work is super. Its got all the shapes, bells and whistles...

Danbo. Your first ?

:grumpy: Shoot me, just shoot me now... :p Jason.

Posting this for sharpkniv for his first knife. Pic is attached.

I find it hard to believe that you would not use stag on your first knife Danbo. If your not going to use the stuff just send it to me and I'll put it to good use:D

The knife posted by Kcardwell is actually my first knife and I want to thank him again for posting that.
I gave this to my son for Christmas and had a sheath made for it and that is what made this knife fun. It will not win any awards but I was happy that it will be a good working knife. It started as 1084 hot rolled steel and I used all hand tools to do it other than an electic drill for the holes. It was 8 months of filing and sanding and did the heat treat myself in a grill in the driveway. The handles were red oak that were stained and treated. The knife takes a good edge and held it after cutting up 3 pork shoulders so I was glad for that. My son saw me working on this for most of the year in the hot garage and I think he appreciated his ol' dad doing this for him. It was a lot of fun and a good learning experience besides.

Thanks Jason Cutter. It's always good to hear comments about your own knives, whether they be bad or good.:)
