Today is the day I got my first kuhkri from HI.
It is a chiruwa AK bearing the mark K. S. and the trisul.
Is Murali back from his bout with TB or is some other kami using his mark. Can someone answer this for me please.
The ch ak has a horn handle and an outstanding blade 17 inches long
but only 600 grams, sorry 1,32 lb.IT is almost due chirra.
I imediatly repollished the horn to get rid off the red stuf, and out came a verry nice horn handle, with a little grey texture.
The edge did not need much sharpening to get hair rasing sharp.:D
The horn has shrunk a little but i wil fix this by applying polymarised linseed oil.
This stuf is used by painters too dylute oil paint.
It will sink in and it will never dry totally thus preventing drying of the horn.Tonight and every other night the blade will be on my nightstand next to my bed.Ready to defend the home.
greeting to everyone,Karels PS all the best wishes for the coming hollydays for you and your families.:)

Congrats karels, and welcome to the Cantina.:) Enjoy your new knife.

You seem to have gathered a lot of information before getting your first khuk. :)

Welcome to the forums.

Hooflex or other lanolin based stuff works better for horn than the linseed oil. At least that's what I have read.

I know you will be delighted with your HI Khuk.

Now, is the time to start looking for a part-time job to fund the purchase and subsequent ownership of all those other lovely khuks you see and really NEED to have.

It is a pleasure to have you join us.

Hi, karels, good choice for your first khukuri. I'll second what Bruise said about the hooflex. Not only does it moisturize the horn, but it really seems to bring out a nice shine. If you sand your handle, you can put a little hooflex on the sandpaper to keep it from clogging.

karels,

Welcome to the Cantina.:D

Excellent choice on your first Khuk, the AK's are awesome.

The next thing you know you will be ordering more because one just isn't enough..:D They seem to multiply somehow all by themselves. :)

The 15" AK was one fo the first two to reach me at the same time. The BAS was the other. The AK's are good khuk's there is no doubt. Hope you enjoy HI and this forum. There are good folks here.:)

Welcome Karels. From you post, it seems you have lurked for a long time gathering information. Feel free to chime in with any knowledge of your own.

Or you can be like me and post what other people have posted in old threads. I fool people into thinking I'm smart this way. :D
