Nice looking VuK in the last pictures too. Seems like nice wide blade with a smooth looking balance and I love the reddish wood.
Might just be the photo but the Vuk wood looks like it might be a bit dry though. You ought to consider soaking both the handles to keep them from drying out and cracking.

walnut oil, Boiled linseed oil, pure tung oil -- natural oils take forever to dry, but are totally non toxic, BLO dries really fast but has lots of solvents-- pure tung should be mixed down with mineral spirits so it soaks deep in the wood( as it plasticizes).
BLO is everywhere, I had to order pure tung oil. otherwise just rub it down and leave it for a day-- keep it in your hand and that will contribute to good finish.
Yep Mineral oil is great for soaking. Though you might want to figure out what you are going to finish it with first as I don't know how some finish would take over a mineral oil soaked handle. I prefer to use the plastic bottle with the top cut off and dunk the handle for a day or so, then just keep it wiped down and use it for a finish. A lot of folks like BLO but there are some things to be aware of when using that. Don't leave rags sitting around ect... Tung oil works really nicely too. Lots of great choices. I think there are a couple threads in the catina about that sort of thing
Do people here prefer tung oil or blo, and will either of those work over mineral oil soaked wood. Does any one have specific steps I can follow to apply a finish for the first time, thanks to everyone here for their help
If your gonna do any kind of finish I'd not do the mineral oil thing. Save that for horn handles.
I much prefer just plain old linseed oil. Tung will give you a shinier glossy finish and a bit more protection from the elements but I much prefer linseed. Just wipe it down with more once in awhile.
Doubt much of anything will work after any kind of oil treatment. I have done mineral over Linseed, both are oils, both just nourish the wood. Nourishing the wood is a good thing.
