Not happy with my first kuksa I decided it needed some more refining. It is well seasoned now and made for hard work. I deepened the bowl some and reshaped the ladle handle as well as underneath it. The gave it a real good sanding and oiling.

What type of wood is that? Are there any types that are better or worse for this application? Thanks.

That is really really ridiculously good looking. I found a big elm burl that I want to make a Kuksa from. I just gotta find the time. Nice job!

WOW, that gorgeous. I just check and one of those will run you between $50 and $65 online. Did you just carved the bowl or burnt it first?

Just the oil.

NoNoNoNo...! A kuksa is supposed to be treated only with oils from coffee. If one has the patience this can be done by drinking coffee from the kuksa :D

The correct way to manually treat a kuksa (this from a kuksamaker I met a couple of months ago i Lappland)
-fill with boiling water, let it sit for a couple of minutes.
-let it dry for two hours
-rub in fresh used coffee grounds with your thumb until the grounds are dry, 5-10 minutes
-repeat couple of times
