Here is a first look at some of Kershaw's new products for 2014. KAI brought us the Blackwash finish last year on select Kershaw and ZT models. This year, Kershaw will expand their Blackwash lineup with several additional models, including existing favorites and a few new designs.

The Leek and Blur, mainstays of the Kershaw lineup, will both add a new variation featuring a Blackwash DLC finish. The recent Rick Hinderer and RJ Martin collaborations (Cryo, Thermite, and Scrambler) will also be offered with a black-oxide Blackwash finish. For those wanting a more aggressive look, Kershaw has a new model Cryo and Cryo II with a fierce-looking Blackwashed tanto blade. For budget-conscious collectors and users just venturing into the knife world, Kershaw created a new Starter series for 2014 that will also all feature the Blackwash finish.

Pictures don't do the Blackwash finish justice. They have to be seen first-hand to really appreciate how fantastic they look. Like a good heavy stonewash, the Blackwash effectively masks most wear, so the finish will look as good after being put to use as it does new. To borrow an expression from KAI - OWN IT!

Disclaimers: ETA's are currently not available. Tweaks to the design and specifications for are subject to change for final production. The images above are property of KAI USA Ltd. and posted here with their permission. I do not speak for or represent Kershaw or KAI USA. I'm just a knife nut that happens to like many of Kershaw's and ZT's knives and was given the privilege of providing sneak peaks here for some of their new products.

DAMN!!! I just posted about the BW Cryo in another thread, but this image just blew my mind. Some of these designs are wicked! And is it just me, or does that Manifold's handle remind you of the Knockout? In a good way :D

Edit: Cryos and Blur BW...they will be mine. Oh, yes. They will be mine.

Grr why couldn't the manifold be a ZT design? Also, 3Cr13? I know the knife is probably going to be about $15-20 but that's a pretty huge step down from even 8Cr13Mov.

Wow... Those Cryo tantos are just absolutely incredible... It's like the old ZT 0400 blade was put into a Cryo handle. Breathtaking.

After I recovered from that, I'm curious now about this 3Cr13 they're using in the Starter line. Who uses this steel? What's it like?

Man, those Cryos.... Can't stop looking at them

ETA: Holy smokes, I also just noticed that the Lifter is 4 inches! That's got to be the biggest Kershaw folding knife I've ever heard of...

I imagine most of these will be made overseas at those price points. I'm not really seeing anything here that's calling my name (I'm not a fan of this blackwash fad).

It's actually not. Not a huge step down at all. Practically speaking, the difference it rather minor.

I assume the 3Cr13 knives are going to be sold at Walmart, like their other dumb downed Kershaw speedsafe's made manuals.

Can you elaborate on that? I'm genuinely curious about this new steel. Are all the properties about the same? Or are there certain areas where it's similar to 8Cr13MoV and areas where it is different?

Its not. All the alphabet China steels are roughly the same.

Hopefully these new sub 30 dollar folders will wipe out the 'gun show' knives...

Kershaw is coming for ya!

Agreed! They should call it the Scavenger Cryo! And the only experience I have with 3Cr is from the Kershaw holiday pack I scored. Like stick said, there's not a huge difference when it comes to edc. It can get pretty sharp, and dulls a little quicker. But look at those MSRPs. That means you're gonna find these on the street for 20-25 bucks. I would gladly pay that for the designs alone.

I believe if you listen to the gear geeks live podcast with Thomas, he explains that all Chinese steel is roughly equivalent.

My apologies, I assumed with only .2-.3% carbon (according to the Knife Steel Composition app) that the ability to harden it would drop dramatically since that's roughly 1/3 the carbon of the already soft 8Cr13Mov. I'm obviously no metallurgist though.

For sure, those are big knives for the price and at Kershaw quality, I can't see how anyone can beat that.

I am digging the Scrambler BW, and I really like the design of the Manifold but the single position pocket clip is a deal breaker for me.

The Lifter looks a little bit similar to the Schrade 301 & 302.....any how I really like the fact it has a 4 inch blade!

The Lifter and the Manifold look really cool but I'm all in on the Blur one of my favorite Kershaw's.

The composition of 3Cr13 is very similar to 420J2. If it performs the same, it will be very corrosion resistant and tough. The MSRP is only $30, so street price is going to be even less. For that, you get a good sized blade, SpeedSafe, Blackwash finish, and a lifetime warranty backed by a reputable company. That's still a bargain.
