Last Friday, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I was runner up in Emspop's giveaway. He didn't initially say there would be additional winners, so it made for a great Friday. Flash forward to Monday and I have a package waiting for me in my mailbox, talk about fast delivery!

A slightly used Buck 303, my first Buck slipjoint. Really the first time I've even handled a Buck slipjoint. I immediately dropped it in my jeans pocket and carried it around the house until bed last night. This morning I pulled out my Case 6316 which is the closest knife I have for comparison, and honestly not a knife I carry as I just never favored it.

So far I've enjoyed the 303. There a quite a few differences between it and the Case stockman. I give the Buck the thumbs up in the F&F category, though it's not by a big margin. The pull on the Buck is a little less than Case, but not in a bad way. I prefer the smaller size Buck. I was also surprised to find it uses 3 full springs compared to the 2 spring Case. I think I enjoy the blades and grinds of the Buck more as well. Overall, my first impressions of the Buck are great and I much prefer it to my Case version. The backspring pins are pretty noticeable on the Buck, and though I would prefer bone or wood scales, I won't turn my nose up to delrin. Those knocks are pretty minimal. I usually prefer one or two blade jacks so we'll see how this week goes, but so far I like the knife!

After washing the blade, the first task of this new knife was cutting up part of a banana for my daughter's breakfast! I'm not going to lie, it did an exceptional job!
